Personal background: I’m a Cambodian-American Woman Education: Assoc. of Technical Arts 1992, Bachelor of Arts-1995 and Master of Education Guidance and Counseling-1997 Career/volunteer activities: Office Coordinator and Counselor with GEAR UP Project 2nd. president of Cambodian-American Community Coaliton, member of API City of Tacoma Domestic Violence, member of Asian Pacific Cultural Center in Community Relation Committee, member of Asian Pacific Islander Coalition Pierce County of Washington, and member of ACLU of WA and belong to Tacoma/Pierce Chapter and in the process of organizing the Cambodian Community Center of WA. While there, she was a keynote speaker for a women's conference. She came back wanting to put on a similar conference in Tacoma. CECILIA FUNKHOUSER (1944-1994) was born April 28, 1944 in Goldendale, Washington. She grew up in a family of 8 children. She went to the University of Washington and got an MBA. She married Tom Funkhouser and had three children. She became Executive Director of WWEE, Washington Women Employment and Education, about 1985 or 86 and was in that capacity in 1988 when she went to Japan to visit Tacoma's sister city Kitakyushu. |

worked for a brief time at an organization in Seattle before she became the Sister Cities Director for the City of Tacoma. She was instrumental in establishing the Sister City relationship with Vladivostok. It was upon her return from a trip to Vladivostok that Cece realized she was ill. She was diagnosed with abdominal cancer and died in November 1994. The community lost a ray of sunshine and beam of inspiration when Cece died. -- Jan Secor |
