Citizen Leaders: The Key to Effective Democracy

A Review of Leadership Theory

Social Change and Social Movements

Our underlying philosophy is "connective leadership" from Jean
Lipman-Blumen's ground breaking book The Connective Edge published in 1996
by Jossey-Bass of San Francisco, CA USA. The symbol of connective leadership is the spider's web, a multitude of relationships and connections around a common purpose. Women are spinning webs of inclusion and understanding through the UN's international conferences and meetings. As we gain the knowledge of our common
condition  and the interconnected forces that influence our lives, we can form a
network of support across vast distances, if necessary, to address our issues. We can "think globally and act locally."

DECIDE TO NETWORK

(by Dr. Robert Muller, former Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations)

Decide to Network
Use every letter you write
Every conversation you have
Every meeting you attend
To express your fundamental beliefs and dreams
Affirm to others the vision of the world you want

Network through thought
Network through action
Network through love
Network through the spirit

You are the centre of the world
You are a free, immensely powerful source of life and goodness
Affirm it
Spread it
Radiate it
Think day and night about it
And you will see a miracle happen:
The greatness of your own life
In a world of big powers, media and monopolies

But of four and a half billion individuals
Networking is the new freedom
The new democracy
A new form of happiness
