KRISTIN KEY

REBECCA CORRY
Age: 25
Hometown: San Marcos, TX
Day Job: Box Office at Market Place Theater

Twenty-five-year old Kristin Key seems like any other sweet, sexy, well-behaved preacher's daughter…until she opens her mouth. Her fearless style of comedy has earned her the title "Preacher's Kid Gone Wild," and after starting her stand-up career at age 19, she quickly became one of the youngest female headliners in the country.

Key was born in Aurora, Missouri, raised in Liberal, Kansas and lived in Amarillo, Texas until moving recently to San Marcos, Texas. She had always wanted to try comedy, but didn't know anything about it, adding "I didn't see my first live comedy show until I did my first open mic."

She was in college studying to be a paramedic in 2000 when the Amarillo Comedy Club opened and her life took a fateful turn. Key did her first open mic night there and was hooked. She quit college that same week to take a full-time job at the club and pursue her career as a comedian.

Key says, "I love making people laugh at things they usually wouldn't think about," and describes her style of comedy as "silly, edgy and very personal. I make fun of myself a lot and I tell a lot of stories."

Since then, Key has performed all over the country in clubs like The Improv, The Funnyfarm, Laff's Comedy Club, Jokers and the Capital City Comedy Club in Austin, where she auditioned for "Last Comic Standing."

Interview
Why will YOU be the Last Comic Standing?
I think I could be the next "Last Comic Standing", because I know what's at stake for me. I'm in love with what I do, and have since I started comedy at 19. I've never made much money at it and have spent the last six years in either the car or a comedy club. I represent the "nobodys" of comedy; the unknowns, the sea of naturally funny comics work day in and day out and never know if they'll make it or not. I'm just a road comic that's been given the opportunity of a lifetime...and I'll give everything I've got to make sure it doesn't pass me by.

Funny is...
Timing and perspective. Funny is fearlessness, intelligence, and nonsense all wrapped into one. Funny is anyone, anytime, anywhere, getting hit in the crotch with a ball.

What comedians do you admire and why?
I've always admired Johnny Carson. He had a way of always preserving a comedy moment. He could be the straight man or the comic...he didn't care. To him it was all about the laughs. I admired him the most because Carson was truly the master of comic timing. I love Steve Martin, he's so clever. George Carlin could made me laugh so hard beer came out of my nose and at the same time make me think. Ellen DeGeneres has such a unique style that's always fun to watch. It's smart and witty...and it just works. I personally like my comedy a little on the blue side. I like Eddie Murphy, Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, and Dave Chapelle. I like fearless comics. I like comics that aren't concerned with what people want to hear, but instead just make them laugh.

Who do you see as your biggest competition?
I know for a fact, Josh Blue is one funny mother f*#ker. He's a powerhouse, and I think America will fall in love with him. It's hard to compete with someone when you're already laughing your ass off at them. Damn, he's funny.

What's the worst job you've ever had?
The worst job I ever had was in high school. I worked at Chuck E. Cheese. I WAS Chuck E. Cheese. To this day I don't like mice...or robots...or children.
