Ajax, Ontario has brought Sum 41 to life once. The second huge punk-pop band to come out of Ajax was Not By Choice. They have played with Sum 41, Goldfinger, Avril Lavigne, Simple Plan, Tulli, Sloan, Gob, Unwritten Law, treble charger, and punk/metal group Pennywise. Inspired by Nirvana, and Green Day were a huge hit from the start. The first single off of Not By Choice's debut album "Maybe One Day" was "Standing All Alone." The single broke out in August 2002. They were an indie band and picked up high rotation's at Muchmusic, MTV Canada, and radio. The band got to play the single live at Muchmusic and was getting massive results across Canada. The second single was " Now That You're Leaving." The video is a direct rip-off of MTV's hit show "Becoming." The song was a huge hit on Muchmusic and was nominated for two MMVA (Muchmusic Video Awards) for Best Rock Video, and Best Independant video. It won Best Independant out Alexisonfire, The Salads, Sam Roberts, and favorites Swollen Members and Nelly Furtado. "Standing All Alone' was feautered on Big Shiny Tunes 7, which is the biggest hits of 2002. Also on it is Sum 41, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, Filter, Papa Roach, Nickelback, P.O.D, Staind, The Vines and more. They even got to play on the Open Mike With Mike Bullard Show twice. They also got to play on Edgefest II with Sevendust, Finger Eleven, Nickelback, Goldfinger, Default, Headstrong, Cake, The Full Nine and more.. The band played with Canadain punk/metal band Grade in thier last three shows before members of them became Somehow Hollow. They played on the Warped Tour 2001 with D12, Sum 41, AFI, Rancid, Pennywise, The Drop Kick Murphy's, Less Then Jake, Fenix TX, Pepper, Alien Ant Farm, The Vandels, and more.
