Strongly influenced by the creative talents of my Nana, Mother and Sister, I sewed, knitted and crocheted before I could ride a bike. Growing up in a large family, we made mainly for functions and sometimes for pleasure; clothes, furnishings, toys.... I have dabbled in macrame, embroidery, pottery, print making and photography ending up jack of many trades and master of none.
Recently, I have been challenged to rekindle these creative beginnings by designing and creating as part of my journey studying textiles and stitch.
Fabric, thread, texture and pattern delight and cajole me to explore their depths and allow them to intertwine and emerge in simple forms. The random interplay of various media combined with unrefined techniques in a rather imperfect fashion, often allows order and intrigue to develop. The result may simply be something to behold or inspire reflection on a deeper level. |
