Dressing dollies did not interest me a bit when I was young. I was much keener on my Meccano set, tearing around on my bike and playing tennis. Then, as a teenager, I found out how much fun I could have if I made my own originals to wear, and took over the old treadle Singer that Mum had for these creations - and that was when the love affair with textiles began for me. I had no rules to stick to and could please myself with choices of design, colour and pattern. My involvement with textiles since those early days reflects my growing passion for the possibilities that textiles offer as a medium for creative expression. My ongoing textile education includes many Fibre Forum residential workshops where I have gained invaluable experiences from talented tutors, as well as having a lot of fun and meeting new friends. I have also attended many one-day workshops and seminars focusing on different textile techniques. The scope offfered by working in the textile field is endless and always exciting, and my vision has been greatly extended by being fortunate enough to attend the Studio Stitch/Textiles course at Box Hill TAFE during the last few years. |
