Three decades of living in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges has given me the chance to explore and develop a love of the nature that surrounds me. I love to walk in the early morning through the tall eucalypt forests and marvel at the sights and smells of a fresh day. In winter, the fern fronds dripping with dew, the river racing after a heavy rain and the soft mists flowing throught the trees set off inspiration for future textile art pieced. In the summer, the smell of fallen leaves exuding their fragrance of eucalyptus and the harsh crackle of seed pods bursting, together with the sounds of bell birds and parrots all coping with the heat in their own way, urge me to grab my camera and sketch book ready to record what I see. Since the 1960's, I have followed a rich variety of artistic pursuit, starting with traditional embroidery and sewing some of my own clothes. In the 1970's, spinning , weaving, macrame, hand made felt toys, hand made paper and crazy patchwork were my love. The 1980's saw my return to embroidery and these days contemporary embroidery and three dimensional textile art is my passion. As an emerging textile artist, my future plan is to have my own studio gallery where I can teach, but also continue my studies in this field and exhibit my own work at various galleries. |
