Rukawa is a cold and quiet person who seldom talks. On the irregular occasions that he does, he speaks quite softly and monotonously. He acts nonchalant and oblivious to everything but basketball, which explains his sleepy attitude towards school and life in general. In the anime and manga, you never see Rukawa with friends. No one really understands much about Rukawa and the way he thinks, because he appears as the type of person who keeps everything to himself. He seems to be a very lonely person because people find him hard to get along with - because of a lack of understanding and his strange habits (for example, turning and walking away from people while they're in mid-sentence), thus often appearing (to more guys than girls) as a rude and disrespectful person. On the court though, he's well known as the super rookie and ace of Shohoku because of his ability to play a pretty much all around game and pull it off with moves that leave people in wide amazement. Although he's only in Grade 1, he already ranks among the top players in Kanagawa, and when it comes to being the best, Rukawa takes it far beyond seriously. Rukawa's determination and concentration is often so strong that it becomes somewhat frightening. Rukawa sees Sendoh as his greatest opponent, and so there are many parts throughout the series where it seems that Rukawa is way obsessed with beating Sendoh (which is probably where the Senru conception began). Rukawa's ambition is to train in the US - 'the land of basketball' - but under the instructions of Anzai-sensei, he has to become the #1 Senior High player in the whole of Japan before he can do so. Although Rukawa doesn't bask in it, he is extremely popular amongst girls. His 'brigade', led by three cheerleaders from Shohoku, seems to grow in number with each match. This is another reason why so many guys are prone to disliking Rukawa. However, as with practically everything that is unrelated to Basketball, Rukawa acts completely disinterested in girls. Because of Rukawa's 'couldn't care less', 'keep everything inside' attitude, which explains his lack of and speech, much of what Rukawa actually feels or thinks is a mystery. It seems that the only relationship that Rukawa can sustain well is the type of relationship he shares with his supposed sworn enemy, Sakuragi Hanamichi. In fact, Rukawa actually talks the most to Sakuragi, and it is interesting how they often fuss like little kids who know each other well. It makes you wonder whether this turbulent relationship with Sakuragi is really the extent to Rukawa's human relations, or whether there is in fact more to the relationship than meets the eye.

Need I say more? Just look at him - how can you not be attracted to him? ~_~ Those blue blue eyes and that silky hair...how can you not smile to yourself when you look at this guy? ^_^ I don't know how to explain it..hehe..I just love the way his hair falls over his eyes...so kawaii!! ^.^ But kawaii in a masculine kind of way...like..um...not a studly way but a gentle yet masculine kind of way....I dunno...it's just that whenever I look at him it takes me a while before I can look away! How can you not find this guy beautiful? ^_^
-_-" Oh god...I'm about 3 steps away from becoming one of those shallow, unbearably annoying, high-pitched Rukawa cheerleaders...LOL...but it's the truth - he is sooo kawaii!
When it comes to his character, to be honest, he is actually pretty weird. Especially the way he walks away when people are trying to talk to him....that is pretty rude. But you know...SD doesn't explain a lot of things. If you become as indrawn, distant, and depressed as Rukawa, there are reasons why, and if he really existed, I would seriously refer him to a counsellor. I remember watching this episode of the anime where Kaede-kun was standing out in the rain alone or something, and he said something like: 'So what if we won?', letting the rain fall on his face and everything...don't you see, he's beating himself up about something inside - he's lonely, self-abased, pessimistic...there has to be more to this guy. Maybe I'm biased and have been influenced by reading too many fanfics, but I believe that Rukawa does have some kind of tragic past which made his outlook on life this bleak, that distanced him away from people so much. Or maybe he has some secrets that he's ashamed of - someone that he misses, something that he lost, something that he can't have. Don't you think that Rukawa pushes himself too hard? Have you ever thought: what is he trying to prove? It seems to me that however well he does, to himself, it's never good enough. He's actually fighting against himself...and that's the toughest thing that you can do... kanashii ne... -_- very sad...
Anyway, that's just my opinion, so don't mind me. I have this friend that's anti-Rukawa, *you know who you are ^.^ haha*, and she claims that no matter what touched up pictures I show her, she still sincerely doesn't think that Rukawa is even remotely cute. >_< I don't understand that...how can you not..--*trails off* I better not get started again.. LOL..^_~
So that's my theory on Rukawa-kun. ^_^ Hope I actually made some sense....
