Each illustration on the previous page shows similar armor with various unquie properties about it. I decided to go with the style of armor that would be easy to create and wear. Below are my outlines of the armor edging. I needed to identify each plate and how they would be pieced together. Although both of these designs have breaks inbetween major plates (such as the shoulder and the chest) which show bare skin underneath, I don't believe the voduun crab armor should have breaks like that. It's a single organism.
If you're going to build something in 3 dimensions, designing it in 2 just doesn't quite give you the right perspective. I took a 12" articulated mannequin and used non-drying oil based clay to design vonduun crab armor plates for it. This served two purposes. First, I saw the armor take on its actual 3-dimensional shape and could make easy adjustments where needed. Second, I learned how to assemble the armor so the right plates would overlap each other.
