disorder. They fall into many categories. This page is formatted to give

The stigma is less. Come
out of the dungeon and live again.
Take your life back.
Below you will find
a introduction to symptoms of this illness.
And yes it is an
illness like any other, not a "mood" someone is in.
Following this are numerous
links for exploring current treatment, support groups and current treatments.
Please be good to yourselves. There is a life out there to live!

What is Depression??
How do I know I have it?
Depression is a debilitating
illness that effects 1 in 5 people at least once in their lifetime. Treatment
of depression is relatively inexpensive.
Depression is the
# 1 public health problem in this country. If you find that you (or someone
you love) suffers from 2 or more of the following symptoms, you may very
well be depressed. The National Institute of Health developed the following
checklist in order to diagnose those suffering from depression:

Symptoms of depression
can include:
•Persistent sad or "empty"
mood
•Loss of interest or
pleasure in ordinary activities, including sex.
•Decreased energy, fatigue,
"being slowed down."
•Sleep disturbances (Insomnia,
early-morning waking, oversleeping)
•Eating disturbances
(loss of appetite, loss of weight or weight gain)
•Difficulty concentrating
remembering or making decisions
•Feelings of guilt, worthlessness,
or helplessness)
•Thoughts of death, suicide
or suicidal ideations
•Irritability
•Excessive crying
•Chronic aches and pains
that don't respond to treatment

If you are suffering
from one or more of these symptoms, and have been feeling this way for
the last two weeks or more, please seek help.
Doctors view depression
as an illness and they will take this as seriously as they do diabetes
or heart disease. You don't have to feel this way! There is help.
Seek the advice of a
professional doctor and don't be afraid to come forward and get the help
you need. Treatment for depression is realitively inexpensive.
