Freedom of Speech
The freedom of speech, a concept and a legal concept of popular term have its roots in the history of the United States of America. The constitution of the United States of America was a hot topic under discussion among the framers of it for quite a while. What would be the modern progress if it was not for the vigorous pursuit of this newfangled human rights issue. The founding fathers felt that personal freedom cannot be without a sense of freedom of speech. One has to imagine the poor people of England and Europe selling all their belongings, packing their carpetbags and lugging their family members to come to the new land. The new land where one would be free to pursue a life, not of the luxury, but that of a free person.
Today we honor the founding fathers of this great nation for their perceptive minds and sense of doing right to the people, not just people of one color, one religion, one region, but all the people. The society cannot become great unless and until each individual citizen partakes in the duties and responsibilities pertaining to the individual freedom. Some elevate the free speech, at the highest level and the others, at the lowest. Free speech, by its nature cannot be free until all the individuals honor its letter, as well as the spirit. What is a free speech to one may be not so free to another. There are no limitations imposed on free speech. It is considered the most fundamental right of all the rights. Let us make the spirit of free Speech ring like the Liberty Bell, when it rang loud and clear, before it cracked and became a symbol, not a working model of liberty. There are issues, apart from the standard disclaimers, which come before each generation. Today, when we are looking at the new millennium, just a breath away, where most of the past is going to dissolve, if not resolved now.
What is obvious that free speech is not what some claim to be. It is not and never was a qualified statement, to be interpreted by any to serve his or her personal beliefs. It is not subjected to any place, time, and constraints. It is true today as it was true yesterday. It shall, equally be true, tomorrow. The objection to this simple and pure concept of free speech comes from the most notorious groups, mostly right wing politicians and fundamentalist religious bigots. They are not the judges; a common man is the judge.
