GAME 8 HIGHLIGHTS
Lightning - Tornadoes 2 - 2
Kickoff time: 7:30 P.M. at Ed Fountain.
Wheather conditions: Cold and Windy.
Today Lightning facing a strong Tornadoes had the chances to remain on top of the table
with a win tie together with the Hot Trick that tomorrow are favorite Winners over the Wildcats.
Despite a good pre-game preparation they were able to managed a tie to take the lead at least
for one day awating results from Hot Tricks - Wildcats meeting tomorrow night.
Lightning started strong ten minutes into the first half and the chances
to score were spoiled by a strong Tornadoes defense and nice saves by a very skilled
goal-keeper. But in the 12 minutes an exchanges of passes found Pierce unmarked that bravely
took a well driven shot impossible for Tornadoes's keeper to stop and Lightning went ahead 1-0.
Around the 20' Erik came far out from the goal to anticipate a ball by the edge of the penalty
box. The referee judged that he picked up the ball outside the box and awarded a free kick to Tornadoes
although the ball was picked up inside the box. A very quick kick from a Tornadoes stricker found
everybody by surprise and scored to level the game at 1-1. Lightning striked back and had two more
chances to score denied by well save of the goal-keeper. On the 26' minutes Davey after winning the
ball dribbled a defender in the box, took a shot and scored the second.
At half time the reds were reminded to be tough and not to let Tornadoes strickers take shots.
Lightning had several chances to score again with shots from Kerry and Guy but could not find the target.
Tornadoes kept up the pressure and from now on the game was defined in midfield for both teams.
Couple of break aways forced Erik to come out from the goal to make some exellent saves sending the ball
out of bounce or up field. But at one point in time near the 15' in came out from the goalie box toward
the right corner unluckily successful where a Tornadoes Striker anticipated and with a nice curled
shot found the net again to level the score at 2-2. A cold shower for Lightning that for the next
10 minutes were having hard times to stop the continuous pressure of Tornadoes. The game got intense
within five minute from time, when on a 50-50 challenge Robby collided with a Tornadoes striker
while Erik saved the ball.
With both players still on the ground the referee allowed the coaches to come on the pitch to assist
the injured players.
Robby said that he was fine and that he could continue. Amazingly the Referee
awarded a drop ball in Lightning's penalty box creating more danger for the reds.
Ball out bounce for a throw in
for Lightning, coach ask for substitution noticing Robby having hard time walking.
Everybody understood that he
allowed the substitution and all players stop while the ball was picked up by Davey with his hands
and the Ref instead of subbing awards
a free kick to Tornadoes. A little comotion for the misunderstanding creating some confusion on
the Lightning side again. Tornadoes took the free kick and with several play
around and within the penalty box almost scored the third.
Several minutes passed by before the reds could legally
substitute the two injured players. The game went on for another few minutes with Tornadoes
determined to take the
lead but luckily enough for Lightning couldn't get through the defensive line with shot on goals.
A very well fought games for both teams. Lightning just tried their best to stop Tornadoes play
that demontrated that they are a team that can challenge on anybody. Their record shows it and
today they have outrun the Lightning midfield from the entire second half while Lightning did
the same on the first half
and struggled on the second keeping up with the pressure of the opponets and resulted in a very
deserved tie for both squads.
Lightning will meet the U-12 Rebels with a change of a win and Tornadoes will meet the Hot Trick,
another super match to watch were both teams will play at their best hoping to gain the
lead of the table. A win for Hat Tricks will keep them on Top of the Table by themself and win for
Tornadoes will put them in second or with a tie too hoping the Lightning lose their game to Rebels.
