Parrots of the World
by Tony Juniper and Michael Parr

Just published. If you want a book about how to take care of your pet parrot, then this is NOT the book for you. If you want to understand how parrots live in the wild, how they fit in their ecosystem, and how they are endangered by threats to them and their ecosystem, then this can be a very rewarding book. There is a huge amount of information about all 350 of the world's parrot species packed into this book. There are illustrations of each species. Although the illustrations are not as artistic as those in Forshaw's book, you get illustrations of adult and juvenile forms of the bird, different sexes in the case of the few sexually dimorphic species, and views of the bird in flight, an absolute must for field identification. So what good is a field guide if you're not planning a trip to the Amazon? We think that the better you understand a parrot in its most natural state, the better you can understand it in its domesticated form. Besides, anyone who loves parrots in a specific case should love parrots in general.
