Welcome to the Valinis family pet parrot page.
We think that parrots are the most fascinating birds and wonderful companions as well.
There are about 332 extant parrot species, mainly from tropical and sub-tropical regions of the
southern hemisphere. Though greens are perhaps most common, they display every color of
the spectrum and range in size from tiny parrotlets of a few inches in length to the magnificent
Hyacinth Macaw which measures a full 40 inches from head to tail.
They are surprisingly intelligent. Some of the larger parrots have been estimated to have
intelligences approximating that of chimpanzees. Rather than just mimicing human speech,
as has been stated by many animal "experts" who display a lingering primate prejudice,
some parrots develop extensive vocabularies, assemble words into meaningful phrases,
and use them in appropriate situations -- true speech rather than mimicry. Parrots are
smart, beautiful, lively, comical, affectionate... the ideal pet for the person who is committed
to the time, effort and expense of giving them comfortable, healthy homes and a
rewarding family life.
