Edward Manicom & Mary Geake



Edward Charles was christened Jul 9 1846 in historic Tintagel Cornwall,
the 3rd child of James MANICOM and Elizabeth (Betsy) BRAY.

Mary GEAKE was born Sep 1848 at Hedall Farm in Davidstow Cornwall,
the daughter of John GEAKE and his 2nd wife Mary BAKER.


Edward married Mary GEAKE
on December 14 1867
in St Breward Cornwall.


Edward & Mary MANICOM had 3 children:

1) William Geake born Feb 22 1868,
married Elizabeth Ann HOOPER on Jun 23 1890 in Jacobstow.
Elizabeth was born abt 1869,
the daughter of Thomas HOOPER and Elizabeth Ann SYMONS.


2) James chr Nov 5 1869 / died Mar 20 1893.

James died in Churchtown St Breward where he was a journeyman tailor.

Cause of death is listed as:

PHTHISIS and exhaustion ....
Phthisis is otherwise known as 'tuberculosis' in modern day terms.
James' Aunt Jane (Geake) was present at his death and she registered it on Mar 25 1893.

3) Elizabeth born Feb 23 1873,
married Leneva George Lawrence West GREENAWAY on Aug 5 1902 in St Breward.
Leneva was born Sep 6 1825, the son of John GREENWAY and Priscilla CHAPMAN.
I have been contacted by a descendant of their daughter and given much of their family information.

Mary Geake MANICOM died Jun 8 1876 in Churchtown St Breward.


Cause of Death on Death certificate
:

Bronchitis 1 year 4 months;
General Dropsy 10 months;
Paralysis 2 days and 12 hours.


Edward was present at her death
and registered it on June 10 1876.


Edward Charles MANICOM died Feb 2 1877 in Churchtown St Breward.


Cause of Death on Death certificate
:

Pneumonia 3 days; Effusion 12 hours.

His mother-in-law Mary Geake
was present at his death
and registered it on Feb 3 1877.

Because of Edwward & Mary's early, tragic deaths as a result of terrible illness,
their 3 children were raised from very early ages
by their maternal grandmother, Mary Baker GEAKE
and their unmarried aunt, Jane GEAKE.
