    ALEXANDER McLEAN b: circa 1765


    Alexander McLean c: 1765

     Alexander McLean was born in Amulree, Perthshire, Scotland circa 1765, his grandson Alexander McLean migrated to Australia shortly after the death of his first wife.
    Alexander departed from Glascow as a "Bounty Passenger" and arrived in Launcheston, Tasmania on the 24th April 1860.

Alexander McLean b. circa 1765, Amulree, Perthshire, Scotland, (son of Peter McLean and Margaret Menzies) occupation: Farmer of Greenfield Farm, m. 19 May 1810, in Monzie, Perthshire, Scotland, Margaret McAinish, b. 17 Feb 1781, Little Doune, Perthshire, Scotland, (daughter of John McAinsh/McTavish and Janet Stewart) d. 31 Dec 1869, Gilmerton, Scotland at 3 a.m., buried: Registered at Belnollow. Alexander died 2 Aug 1856, Gilmerton, Perthshire, Scotland, buried: Amulree Churchyard, Scotland. Death certificate indicates Place of Death as Gilmerton, registered at Fowlis Wester by his son Duncan:- Alexander was a married farmer aged 94 at time of death Cause of Death: Broken Hand and Head Injuries caused by fall three days prior Ref: 1856d/Fowlis Wester Co. Perth 357-15

    Ref: 1841 cens. Fowlis Wester Co. Perth 357/bk 8/p 9 Alexander was listed as 70 and Margaret was listed as 55, both being born in the county. The 1841 schedules give comparatively little information, and tended to round down adult ages to the nearest five years.

    Ref: 1851 cens. Fowlis Wester Co. Perth 357/bk 8/p 5 Alexander was listed as 86, Expectant of Property and born in Perth Amulree. While his wife Margaret was listed as aged 66 and born in Perth Little Doune.

    Tay Valley FHS has confirmed that Peter McLean was the father of Alexander McLean Margaret: Margaret McTavish

    Ref: 1861 cens. Fowlis Wester Co. Perth 357/bk7/p 5. Margaret McLean (a widow) was shown as head of the house, aged 84, Pauper formerly Domestic Servant b. Perth Crieff. According to the schedule, this house had one room with a window, and Margaret was said to have been blind.
