8/2 Kristi is one of Blades On Ice Magazine's Skaters of the Decade!
The Skaters of the Decade were chosen for "contributing something special to the sport during the past ten years and represent the wonderful variety of styles and talent that we have seen in figure skating this past decade." For Kristi, they wrote the following:
"In 1992, Kristi Yamaguchi became the first American women to win the Olympic gold medal since Dorothy Hamill in 1976. She also accumulated two World titles and a national title in singles. But for most of her formative skating years, she also competed in pairs with Rudy Galindo, winning two national gold medals and a World junior pair title before concentrating her energies on singles. She has been a staple of the Stars On Ice tour ever since her Olympic win and has competed in and won many professional titles. She was inducted into the World and U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1998. She continues to work fir charitable causes such as the Always Dream Foundation, which she established in 1996. Her annual Skates in the Park inline skating event in the San Francisco Bay Area is a fund-raiser for the foundation and she hopes to expand the event around the country. She also participates in the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Her autobiography Always Dream was published in 1998 along with her "how-to" book Figure Skating For Dummies. Kristi maintains a home in Reno, Nevada and is engaged to Bret Hedican, a defenseman for the Florida Panthers hockey team. The couple plans to be married next July."The article also includes a quote by Kristi: "Skating is still the focus of my life. I still love it even more than I did before." Kristi Yamaguchi 1998

Kristi is included in IFS Magazine's 25 Most Influential People in Figure Skating (from August '99 issue)
Caption says:
"One individual whose sphere of influence only continues to grow is 1992 Olympic women's gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi. Her popularity and versatility as a performer remain unabated and her marketability has increased. Over the past year, she inked a major corporate endorsement, becoming the official spokesperson for Mervyn's California, a department-store chain.
Yamaguchi sat out most of the competitve season, leaving fans calling for her return. She finally did in April, in a team competition produced by the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA). She also floated through sophisticated performances in Stars On Ice.
'I hope that I still create a place for professional skating and a niche for where it's okay not to be training and focusing just on Olympic skating, but to be focused on working hard as a professional, making that a great place to be,' says the 28-year-old.
Yamaguchi also demonstrated her belief that those who enjoy good fortune must give back. She continues to raise and distribute funds through the Kristi Yamaguchi Always Dream Foundation. The foundation is planning a skating show in September to benefit breast cancer research and awareness."
