11/6 Kristi's Wedding will be in Hawaii!
According the Bret Hedican website, Bret (in an interview with a Vancouver sports radio show called CKNW) said that their wedding will take place in Hawaii. Quote: "Her family goes over there quite a bit and we got alot of good relationships over there. So, that's where we're going to do it."
Listen to the interview at the Bret Hedican Website. It's 6:09 minutes long. They talk about Kristi at approximately 4:34. Click on the red link "interviewed by CKNW". You need the program Real Player downloaded to listen.
Read the Kristi-related parts I transcribed: Interview
I must say, from listening to that interview, Bret seems just as reluctant as Kristi to publicly talk about their relationship. LOL ;-)

10/25 Kristi rings the Opening Bell at the NY Stock Exchange
This morning, Kristi with Celanese Acetate executives rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), signaling the first day of share trading of the new Celanese AG stock. It is listed as CZ.
Check out the NYSE website and read more about the event: Celanese AG Lists on the NYSE. While you're there, you can also view a photo of the Kristi surrounded by the executives - all wearing bright orange baseball jackets (made from the Acetate fiber, of course) and displaying a "thumbs-up" gesture to the camera.
Read the press release: Kristi Yamaguchi Heralds Celanese Debut at NYSE. (note: you must have Adobe Acobat Reader downloaded to view it. But, if you don't have the program, don't worry. Here is the text version of the article.)
10/25 Kristi is on the cover of the new Stars On Ice book
A new "pocket-size" edition of the Stars On Ice: An Intimate View of the World's Greatest Skating Tour book has been recently published and is available. Imagine my delight, when I saw Kristi on the cover! According to the book flap it is a "treasury" edition to the original. Meaning, the book is a very, very condensed version that pretty much contains the same photos and text.
This new book is hardcover, sized at about 4 by 5 inches, 80 pages long, and contains 6 chapters. The retail price is $4.95! The original version is 160 pages long and has 7 chapters.
The cover photo is from the Led Zepplin opening number during the 1997-98 tour. Kristi is wearing a lacey, red tank top with shiny, red leather (or vinyl perhaps?) pants.
Scan of the cover of the book. Note that it is actual size.
She is pictured 4 more times in the book: 1) with Scott Hamilton during "Shameless", 2) waving on the podium during the '92 Olympics, 3) looking good in "My Lovin", and last 4) a pose from "Violin Concerto".
You can find more information about this book at Amazon.com: Stars On Ice.
10/18 One of A. Magazine's 100 Most Influential Asian Americans
In the October/November 1999 issue of A. Magazine: Inside Asian America, Kristi has been named one of the 100 Most Influential Asian Americans of the Decade.
The magazine states in the introduction of the 100 list:
"Whether motivated by community interest, creative inspiration or personal ambition, the work of these one hundred individuals has made an indelible impression on our community and the nation at large during the '90s. We looked to them for leadership and innovation, while they gave shape to our identity as Asian Americans..."
Kristi is in the "Jocks" category with fellow skater Michelle Kwan, football player Junior Seau, tennis player Micheal Chang and golfer Tiger Woods.
Kristi's caption reads:
"As the first Asian American to ever grace the vaulted cover of a Wheaties box, Kristi Yamaguchi is Asian American's ambassador to the ice skating world. Yamaguchi blazed into sports history with her gold medal performance at the 1992 Winter Olympics, becoming the first American to win the event in sixteen years. Soon after, she turned pro and has spent the last seven years touring internationally in ice shows. But she hasn't given up her taste for gold - most recently, she won the World Pro Figure Skating Championship in 1997. Must be the Wheaties."
10/15 Make-A-Wish Foundation Honors Kristi
On October 14th in Phoenix, Arizona, Kristi has been honored with the 1999 Celebrity Wish Granter of the Year award from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The other recipients of this year's award are the Backstreet Boys, David Hasselhoff, Geoffrey Bodine and Steve Burns.
1999 marks the 10th year of the Celebrity Wish Granter of the Year award. The first award was presented in 1990 to Scott Hamilton. Other honorees included Ken Griffey Jr., Hulk Hogan, John Travolta and former wish child Kevin Sharp.
Congratulations Kristi for receiving this wonderful award and getting the recognition you truly deserve!
Read this touching article dated 12/9/98 from The Advocate entitled: "Cancer returns to girl, 6, famed for tea parties" and sadly 3 days later "Popular young cancer patient dies in Natchitoches". Kristi made a wish come true for a very special girl named Molly Begnaud.

Kristi pictured in Peggy Fleming's Biography
I had to chance to briefly skim through Peggy Fleming's new biography The Long Program: Skating Through Life's Victories at the bookstore and saw Kristi's picture in one of the two photo sections in the book.
The photo caption states: "In Boston, 1993, at the Skates of Gold event. From left= Anett Potzch, Peggy, JoJo Starbuck, Katerina Witt and Kristi Yamaguchi."
The skaters are pictured at what looks like a practice session at the event. Everyone is dressed very casually. Kristi is wearing a black Stars On Ice/Discover Card pullover. She's facing the camera and (of course) smiling. :-)

Kristi in Scott Hamilton's New Biography
Kristi is mentioned in the description of Scott's book "Landing
It". Here is an excerpt by Kensington
Publishing Co.
"Scott also gives followers of the sport a rare glimpse inside the world of superstar figure skaters with warm, often humorous personal stories about his close friends and colleagues, including Kristi Yamaguchi, Paul Wylie, Brian Boitano, Kurt Browning, Rosalynn Sumners, Sergei Grinkov, Katia Gordeeva, Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, and Katarina Witt."Kristi says (on the back cover of the book flap):
"We don't call him Skate God just for his medals, but for being the premier professional skater in the world. He made pro skating what it is today, and he's a sweetheart to boot."
The full title of this book is called Landing It : My Life On and Off the Ice. It is written by Scott Hamilton and Lorenzo Benet. The retail price of this 320 page, hardcover book is $25.95. According to the publishers, this book is out of stock. But, at online bookstores, such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, this book sells for $18.16, which saves you about 30% off the retail price. Links are provided below.
Now, on to the Kristi related parts. Scott mentions her in several pages. He talks about "Yama's" Albertville experience, how she comforted him during his cancer treatment by visiting his house and hanging out, but my favorite passage is when he wrote about how he first met her. She was 9 years old, and she gave him a single flower while he was sitting in the stands during the 1981 nationals. Another favorite moment of his, when he made her laugh by handing her "a year's worth of tissues". (Read the book, I don't want to give everything away!). He goes on by saying how Kristi is more than a friend, but a loyal confidante, with whom he can share anything. Kristi is also pictured in two group off-ice photos: one hanging out at Scott's Denver home and the other dining out. Both are from 1995.
