It's Barbeque Time!

As any self-respecting southern woman knows, tis better to barbeque than to cook indoors. The reason behind this is MEN do barbeques, women usually don't. Hence, who does the cooking? Your male counterpart of course. When he tires of it, your children are old enough to do it. A great way to get out of making dinner, don't you think?

In my house, we barbeque anything that can be wrapped in foil or just put on the grill. This includes vegetables, meat, poultry and pork (the other white meat).

The trick to a successful barbeque is to use water soaked hickory chips. This gives the neighbors something to think about. It is used by the women of the neighborhood to get their men to cook. "Honey, just smell those hickory chips. Someone must be barbequeing! What a great idea!" Of course, by the time the man tries to say "no", he's already gotten the grill going.

The sauce is another secret to a great meal. Just any old sauce won't do. I like Cattleman's. Whatever you use, be sure it is hickory smoked.

Now, aren't you hungry enough to start the grill?

Just a little recipe to go with the barbeque.

BUBBA'S FAMOUS SOUTHERN STYLE BAKED BEANS

What you need:

  • 2 ten ounce cans pork and beans
  • 1 cup DARK brown sugar
  • worcestershire sauce
  • maple syrup
  • molasses or corn syrup
  • mustard
  • catsup
  • chopped onion
  • garlic powder
  • chopped green pepper (optional)
  • 2-3 strips bacon

Bubba says: Open beans and pour into an oblong casserole baking dish (ovenproof). Add brown sugar, 5-6 shakes worcestershire sauce, about 2 squeezes maple syrup, approximately 1/4 cup molasses, couple squirts of mustard, approximately 1/4 cup catsup, about 1/2 cup chopped onion and (green pepper)and a generous few shakes of garlic. Mix all together and put the bacon on top. Bake at 325 degrees until mixture is bubbly, bacon is cooked, and edges are brown.(NOTE: This is an approximate recipe..No one really knows how much to put in. It varies each time he makes it. Just go by taste and feel here. But these are the correct ingredients.

Thank you very much - BUBBA.
