All of these have come from past tips of the month.

Tip #1 for acrylic paints: If you use acrylic paints in those little bottles, a good way to save paint is to take those little medicine cups that come with kid's Tylenol or cough syrup and fill them with the paint you want to use. Then when you're done for the time being, slip the cup into a zippered bag and seal. The paint should last for a long time.

Tip #2 for acrylic paints: You can use an old plastic coated egg carton for paint. Slip into the freezer when you have to be away from your project for a short while. The paint won't dry out.

Tip #3 for acrylic paints: Always store your bottles upside down. This way the paint will be at the top and it will stay fresher longer. It's a good idea to mark the paint number on the side you can see (which in this case is the upside down bottom) for projects requiring you match numbers. Also you can see the color easier.

Tip #4: Select your clay pot from a reputable dealer. Be sure they haven't been sitting outdoors. Look for hidden cracks (under the rim), hairline cracks, and chips. Don't buy those.

Tip #5: Get ready for Fall and it's beautiful colors. Try painting old produce baskets with Fall leaves, pumpkins, apples and Halloween items. Now that the weather promises to cool off, people's minds will turn to the Fall holidays.

Tip#6: Have kids? Try something fun for the holidays. Sculpy III sculpture compound is found at any art or craft store. It is nontoxic and completely safe to use. They can make anything out of Sculpy III and all you have to do is bake it in a 275 degree oven for 10-20 minutes and it's done. Let it harden out of the oven a few minutes (while it cools). They can paint on it or it comes in lots of colors. Great for Christmas decorations, jewelry, anything they can think of. And...if it breaks, some tacky glue is all that is needed to glue it back together again.
