PREMARIN & PMU FOALS
Having people who need to use Premarin means having PMU foals, which in turn means over 50,000 foals a year will be slaughtered just so women can take the Premarin. We feel people should be able to make their own decision about Premarin, and want to provide as much information as possible. We also feel that people need to be made aware of the fact that there are synthetic products which are good alternatives to Premarin. These links are meant to educate people about Premarin and how it is made. Please visit these sites before you make up your mind about taking Premarin or its production process, and then check out the links on the bottom of the page to see what we are doing to help the foals.

We at Rainbow Acres feel there is good and bad in almost everything.....including PMU farms and farmers. To classify all the farms either good or bad would not be right. Therefore, we have decided to work with the farms that care about the health and welfare of the mares and foals, as a way of saying thank you for caring about them. Our goal is to save as many of these innocent babies as we can, and in turn, hopefully more of the farms will see these babies as more than just a by-product for sending to auction and slaughter.
This is not saying we support PMU farms, but if they must exsist, shouldn't we support the ones that care about the animals?
We are working closely with Needful Beings, which is located in Oregon, to help find homes for the PMU foals from a few of the farms that care about what happens to them, does not subject them to the abusive conditions you usually hear about, and are willing to adopt them out to people who are interested in them, rather than sending them to auction. The farmers involved in this effort care about their horses, and want to see them get loving homes instead of wondering what happens to them. See an example of the Annual Cycle of PMU Mares by farmers who care.
Donna has gone to Canada and visited the farms. She has seen the way the animals are cared for and treated. She has taken pictures of the foals. These pictures have been placed on the web for anyone to view. We are planning an adoption trip, where the foals people want can be obtained, brought to the states, and then transported to their new homes.
If you are interested in getting a PMU foal, or in case you are wondering what some of the PMU foals look like, and to help you understand why we feel the way we do about these babies, please visit the sites Donna has so kindly put up which have some pictures of some PMU foals on them.
On a recent trip up to Canada Donna was able to take more photos of the babies that are available for adoption. Donna Weatherly, the spearheading force behind "PMU Trek 2000" and has gone up to the farms to check out and see the conditions for herself. Find out Why she went, and What she saw. There is also a mailing list for those people interested in PMU foals.
In order to raise money to help rescue these foals, we have designed a t-shirt that we are currently offering for sale. You can view the t-shirt, and if you are interested in purchasing one, please contact Lisa.
