Awards You Can Receive
First, let me say that I am not a talented artist. Credit for all the graphics on this page go to Lady DJ.
She designed the awards--all I did was add my name and a title
for each. She also designed this fabulous background.
Why would I want to give awards if I can't do all the designing myself? It's simple. I know how happy and elated I get when receiving an award. I'd like to give that same feeling to someone else.
There are times while I am out surfing webpages when I run across sites that are wonderful in some way. I would like to show how much I enjoy these sites in a tangible way.
So, until I figure out how to use the drawing program well enough to do my own designing, I would like to offer these awards.
Please do not apply for them. Just sign my guestbook. That is the quickest way for me to see your website. If I think that it is worthy of an award, you will be hearing from me.
I probably should also state what I look for in a site.
- I have an intense dislike of frames. Frames will not automatically disqualify you; however, frames in which I have to
scroll sideways to read are a definite nono.
- I don't do it for every page on the site, but, I usually view the document source on one or more pages. If I see images that are linked from another site, I will check the other site to make sure that you have permission to link to that image.
- If you use borders, don't forget to table the page so that the writing is not spread all over the border. Sometimes, a few letters end up on the border anyway, and I can understand a few letters--but not almost all the way to the left of the page.
(Hint--if you use an image that is wider than the table, you will not be able to use a border successfully.)
- I also dislike Java scrolling in the status bar. I want to be able to see the addresses of links in the status bar and it is also distracting to me. Not an automatic disqualification, but, definitely not a point in your favor.
- Actually, I hate Java. A small Lake Applet may be okay. Small being the operative word there. My browser is Java enhanced, so I can see the pages. But, to me, Java is usually slow to load and I am, 9 times out of 10, unimpressed with the results. I avoid Java chatrooms.
- Colors. I do not mind colored text, but, I would like to be able to read what is on the page. Sometimes increasing the font size is enough to make the page more reader friendly.
- Your pages must not be just links and animations.
- If you are on geocities, make sure that you have the link to geocities on each page.
- Busy geometric and freeform patterns in bright or dark colors give me a headache.
- Pornographic and hate-inciting sites are automatically disqualified.
- Spelling is important!! I don't disqualify a site for an obvious typo or two. However, lots of misspelled words on a page mars my enjoyment of that page.
The awards are on hold until the school year begins in mid-September. This is because I am spending a lot less time on the computer and much more time with the kids. When they go back to school, I will have much more free time. I will get caught up with the guestbook entries then...although I will probably pay a brief visit to at least your front page and sign your guestbook before then.
