LADDY, MY BORDER COLLIE

My family and I have had Laddy since he was just a puppy. We got him from my Uncle. In fact if it wasn't for my Uncle, Laddy would have never been a part of our lives. I guess you could say my Uncle actually saved Laddy's life. Anyway, let me explain, so the story goes, my Uncle had run into one of his next door neighbours whose dog had recently had a litter of puppies. He couldn't find any owners for these little puppies so he decided that he would get rid of them all. His solution was to drown them. He was taking the last puppy (which was Laddy), when my Uncle ran into him and found out what was happening. He insisted that he take the puppy for this man. The only problem being, he lived in an apartment and they were not allowed to have any pets. Luckily, that same day, we stopped by to visit my Uncle. He explained to us what was going to have happen to this dog if he did not take it. Now, my Uncle was kind of in a bind. He couldn't keep it either. He didn't know what he was going to do with this puppy. Ironicly enough, we had actually been thinking about getting a dog. The moment we saw Laddy we fell in love with him. He was a little ball of fur. We all decided that this would be the puppy for us. We called him "Laddy" because he kind of resembled "Lassie" but was a male.

Now almost 13 years later, Laddy is still a part of our family. He has brought so much happiness to each of us. Most of my memories as a child include Laddy. If I think back hard enough, I can still remember the first day we brought him home.

The unfortunate part is Laddy is growing old, like everything living thing on this planet does. His hearing is slowing starting to go, he has arthritis in his back hip, and he is starting to develop cataracts. And yes, even his fur is turning a greyish-white color. However, no matter how long Laddy is with us, he will always be a part of our family. He will always be a part of each one of our hearts.
