National Highway Traffic Safety Association
NHTSA is responsible for reducing deaths, injuries and economic losses resulting from motor vehicle crashes. This is accomplished by setting and enforcing safety performance standards for motor vehicles and items of motor vehicle equipment, and through grants to state and local governments. The complex relationship between a motor vehicle and its driver is of major interest. Factors influencing this relationship include the driver's physical and mental abilities and driving experience, the nature of driving, the responsiveness of the motor vehicle and its components to the driver's demands, and environmental conditions.

It's unfortunate but true. This year more than 7000 children will be killed and another 50,000 seriously injured in accidents around the home. In fact, accidental injury is the number one killer of children under the age of 14. What's more tragic is these accidents are often preventable. Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Carbon monoxide (CO) can cause headaches, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness, and burning eyes. Unfortunately, you can't be sure that carbon monoxide is causing these illnesses, because you can't see carbon monoxide, and you can't smell it. Exposure to excessive amounts of carbon monoxide can even cause death.

School Safety: Promising Initiatives for Addressing School Violence
Many schools throughout the United States are struggling with rising levels of youth violence. Schools have adopted a broad range of solutions to curb violence. The four programs GAO visited--in California, Ohio, and New York--are examples of some of the promising approaches schools have initiated to address violence. Research suggests that the most promising school-based violence-prevention programs involve at least some of seven key characteristics, including a comprehensive approach, starting early, and involving parents.
