True Tragedies
&
Lessons to be Learned from Them

If you have read my "about me" page then you know that at am an Insurance Broker here in Ontario, Canada with Terrace Bay Insurance Ltd. If not, well now you know! <smiling>

I have been involved in Insurance for quite a few years now and unfortunately, I see or hear about some pretty tragic events. Many of these terrible occurrences could have been avoided if the adult present had been more alert or more safety conscious with the child involved.

I am not going to lecture.......so NO FEAR!          LOL!!!

If this page gives you goosebumps or depresses you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,then GOOD! I would rather you shiver here than break your heart in real life! <sigh>

These stories are true events. There is a lesson to be learned in every one!

Please! If you truly care about the children in your life, I ask you to read on and to take a look at some of the helpful, informative sites that I have found on the WEB. You can find them on my Extremely Important Information page.

I am adding more as I find them on the WEB, so check back often! <smile>

A list of recalled child safety equipment will also be available soon......sorry I am working on it and it is taking me quite a while to gather all the information. Unbelievable how many devices are recalled! Oh! Also, there will be a list of the toys for kids that have proven to be dangerous!

In the meantime, I have listed a couple of child car seats that have been recalled. Please, check to see if the one you are using is there. <smile>

Have you ever done this? Jumped into the passenger seat of the car in a hurry and held the baby on your lap?

The young father was driving the car. The young mother, in the passenger seat beside him, was holding their beautiful 9 month old son on her lap.

A reckless driver drove through the red light at their intersection causing the young father to swerve the car out of the way. His car hit a pole on the side of the road.

No big deal. Just a fender bender, right?

NO!!!!

The young mother had her side window rolled down a little. When their car hit the pole her baby was jerked out of her arms. The baby's little head went right out the open window, but the rest of him didn't fit. His neck snapped and he was killed instantly!

Imagine how that young couple feels! Imagine turning to see if your family is ok. That they don't have any bumps or bruises. To find your son like that!

Please be safety conscious with your child!

Don't let this happen to you!

Use an approved child car seat in the recommended postion at all times. Even if you are running late!

We all joke and kid about how fast the baby can move, right? <smile>

Here is a story told to me by a close friend. His son is a conductor on AMTRACK.

One day, the engineer spotted a small child right there in front of the train on the railroad tracks! There was absolutely nothing he or anyone could do to stop the train in time.

Now, like me you must be wondering, what the heck was a toddler doing all by himself anywhere near the tracks?

Well, his parents were enjoying a bit of fishing, you see. They were occupied with their pursuit and neglecting the child.

I think, in the first place, if they are fishing then there has got to be water about! Deep or moving water and babies do not mix!

This is the reason we have silly awkward things called "playpens" or even a harness with a rope would have done! Better yet! A little attention paid to the child. The child was definitely in an unsafe environment.

Do you have some suggestions on how this child could have been kept safe? Please leave your comments and suggestions in my guestbook entitled

I know how you all love to hate your Insurance Broker! LOL

Here is a true story were the client should have listened and listened hard to his Broker!

The client lived in a double trailer style home. In this home there was a woodstove.

...Got to keep the cost of heating down, right? <grinning>

His Insurance Broker visited the home to do a routine inspection. Upon seeing the woodstove he made certain recommendations to the owner. The client refused to listen and moved his insurance coverage to another Brokerage. The suggested changes would cost him too much money $$$ he felt. A penny saved is a penny earned, eh?

Within 2 months tragedy hit his family!

The Insurance Broker had recommended moving the woodstove further away from an inside wall. Needless for me to say, they had a fire! The wall nearest the woodstove got too hot and caught fire.

In spite of the heroic efforts by the Firemen, his small daughter died in that blaze!

The wall,,,,,,well the inside wall that the woodstove was too close to was HER bedroom wall!

I wonder if this man is still counting his pennies!

Please listen to anyone who sees a hazard and suggests changes to you.
