Spiritual Relationship

There are several parts to us that make us human. The Physical part has to do with our health, looks, the 'Power Pack' that is our bodies, the Mind (less physical) part that has to do with our Emotional, Intellectual and Id, and the Spiritual (least physical) which is our conscience, soul and our relationship with God.

Our Relationship with God is through prayer. Not being a public speaker I prefer meditation as my form of prayer. I don't expect but I listen within for whatever God wants to answer. He speaks through me, not to me. If I listen honestly, I can hear him 'in my own voice in my thoughts'. The trick is to be open and truthful without reservations. This is extremely difficult and is one of the hardest parts about talking with God. Listen to him and not my own desires or id.

I guess the another difficult part is what I would call Walking with God. Walking the Walk and Talking the talk means constantly asking if you are saying or doing something, anything Christ wouldn't do. I frequently notice the acronym:

WWJD?

which stands for What Would Jesus Do?

One tool I have to help is a the 12 Step Spiritual Recovery Program. This is an adaption of the 12 Step AA program that has helped me frequently get back on track and on the road to spiritual growth. Like AA, this is something to share and find another to help during the difficult times. The Cell Groups with our church has become a meeting place for us to share, lean and grow together. This is a small 'support group' that meets regularly to grow and pull each other along their Spiritual development.

I hope it helps...

The 12 Step Spiritual Recovery Program

(Spiritual Brokenness)

  1. We admit we are powerless. Our lives have become spiritually unmanageable.

  2. We believe that God's power is greater than ourselves and only He can restore us.

  3. We decide to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God.

  4. We make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

(Confession)

  1. Admit to God, ourselves and to others the exact nature or our wrongs.

  2. We are entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

  3. Humbly ask Him to remove our shortcomings.

(Repentance)

  1. Be willing to make amends to all persons we have harmed.

  2. Make direct amends to all people except when to do so would injure them or others.

  3. Continue to take personal inventory and promptly admit when we are wrong.

(Obedience)

  1. Through prayer and meditation, improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will and the power to carry that out.

  2. Carry this message to others in spiritual need, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
