kfamily LasagnaIntro:This is a simple Lasagna that our whole family quivers at the mere mention of it. (Tells you a lot about our family!) The key ingredient is the off-the-shelf spaghetti sauce you use. This can make or break this (or any) Italian pasta dish so choose your favorite Spaghetti sauce carefully. Here's what I use:1lb. Leanest Ground Beef (less than 7% fat) 1 box of Lasagna flat noodles 1lb. Mozzarella Cheese (Grated) 1 Jar (26oz) of Spaghetti Sauce Here's what I do:Lay out 3 overlapping layers of uncooked noodles into your pan to find out how many noodles you need to cook (see image 1). Remember that the noodles get larger after they are cooked. Overlap at least 50% of each noodle. Prepare the Lasagna flat noodles as directed on the package. Be careful not to break the noodles as they soften when they are first placed into the boiling water pot (see image 2). Cook to minimum time so noodles are aldente (soft but firm). Brown the Ground Beef in a little olive oil. Add spices to season meat. I perfer a dash (to taste) of Schilling (Salt Free) Garlic & Herb Seasoning (see image 3). Set aside and let it cool. Place a little olive oil in the colendar to help reduce the lasagna noodles from sticking (see image 4). After draining noodles add a little additional olive oil. In your final baking pan (about 12" x 8" x 2") spread a little spaghetti sause on bottom to help prevent noodles sticking (see image 5). Lay out the first overlapping layer of cooked noodles (see image 6). Spread a little spaghetti sause on bottom to help keep noodles soft and moist (see image 7). Add a complete layer of meat and sprinkle some cheese to help hold this layer together (see image 8). Lay out the second layer of overlapping layer of cooked noodles. Spread a little spaghetti sause on the bottom again. Add a complete layer of cheese and sprinkle some meat to help hold this layer together (see image 9). Lay out the third and final layer of overlapping layer of cooked noodles. Add a complete layer of spaghetti sause making sure to tuck the noodles into the edge and covering all exposed area of noodles with sause. Sprinkle with cheese (see image 10), cover with tin foil, and place in a 350o oven for 25 minutes. Remove, cut and serve with Parmesan Cheese sprinkled on top (see image 11). Serve with salad, olives and a nice hearty glass of wine. |
