Storyline #1: Getting to Know your Deputy Mayor
Mike is selected for the object of a television personal profile by one of the local news stations. Mike spends the first few minutes of the show picking out which power tie to wear for the interview, at one point going without one. Eventually, the news crew gets there and interviews Mike as well as the staff, much to Paul's dismay. During the interview process, Mike lets loose a one-liner about Ashley and how she supposedly lets Mike off easy because of their relationship. This not only gets Mike in trouble with Ashley but makes Mike put the stiffarm on James's current fling with the TV reporter sent to profile Mike. Eventually, Ashley gets tough on Mike and Mike goes easy on James.

Storyline #2: Needle Me This, Needle Me That...
This episode finally lets Carter bring his abrasive viewpoints on issues when he suggests a needle exchange program to stop the spread of AIDS in the city. Obviously, Mike rejects it because of the appearence of subsidising drug use. But Carter goes over Mike's head and convinces the Mayor to make a suprise announcement. Needless to say, this makes the staff run for cover to make up for the political damage caused by this new announcement. Eventually, The Mayor retracts the policy, causing Mike, Carter and the Mayor trying to take credit for the snafu. The situation ends up being largely ignored as the trio turn the press conferrence into a Vegas revue.

 

Review: Pride and Prejudice

Overall, a informative episode. Mike's interview was a witty way to further introduce the staff. We get to learn everyone's jobs and pick up a little more on personalities. Mike's remark was also a good way to work Ashley into the storyline but still keep their relationship in the background. Carter begins to show his abrasiveness within the organization. Before, he had just been pretty much just another team player. Hopefully, we'll see more of Carter shoving his views into the administration rather than Carter becoming another Stuart clone. The Mayor continued his "What am I doing here?" routine. Barry Bostwick has been fun to watch, just not politically viable.
