The story behind this song: For a long time, Chuck and I hung out at a little songwriters' haven in Richmond, Texas called The Brazos Bottom. The bar is closed at the moment, but each of the people we hung-out with there have touched our lives in their own special way. This is our way of saying "Thank You, Ya Goof Balls!" Of course, because of the limitation of song forms not everyone's name is in the song. But everyone, named or not, is a precious part of our life.
Woke Up Sunday Mornin’
To A Television Preacher-
His Message Got Me To Thinkin’,
And I Began To Pray...
Lord, Bless The Bar Room Congregation
Where I Go To Play,
Look On My Friends’ Hearts
And See The Goodness
That Lives There Ev’ryday.
Yeah, From The Outside
We’re A Motley Bunch
I Have To Admit,
But After Gettin’ To Know Us
That Don’t Matter A Bit.
There’s Joe,
He Patiently Teaches Me
Each Time I’m There.
John, Keeps Me Laughin’
‘Till My Eyes Are Full Of Tears.
And Roxie Belle, A Dear Spirit,
Gives Me Comfort Through My Storms.
Yeah, Bless The Bar Room Congregation
Who Welcomes Me With Open Arms.
Each Person Who Goes There
Each Person Who Plays
Gives To Me A Part Of Them
I Can Never Replace
Dennis, Came And Got Me
When I Was Sleepin’ In The Cold.
Dianne And Richard Fed Me
When My Daughter Was So Ill.
There’s Cowboy Tony, & Tony K.,
Scott, George, And All The Rest...
They’re The Bar Room Congregation
I Ask You To Bless.
Each Person Who Goes There
Each Person Who Plays
Gives To Me A Part Of Them
I Can Never Replace
