Wade Jesep was a cowboy. He worked the B Bar B.
Annie’s pulse would quicken when Wade walked into the cafe.
They were meant for one another, yes, it was plain to see.
And the meager wages Wade would earn wouldn’t go far anyway.
But Annie she was happy with the time they spent together,
Planning for the day she’d spend all her time with Wade.
And the Rockies would be their wedding chapel,
When the early summer rains turned ’em green.
Up there in a high mountain meadow-
That’s were Wade would give Annie her ring.
The country there can kill you in more ways than you could know.
And, so, one day it did happen in the back of a box canyon-
Wade came off of his horse and he died there in the snow.
And the Rockies will be Wade Jesep’s headstone,
When the early summer rains turn ‘em green.
Poor Annie didn’t know, she’d have to let him go
Before she had a chance to wear his ring.
Annie’s still a waitress in Meeker, Colorado
And her son,well, he’s a cowboy,
And he works the B Bar B.
