Just A Penny More

© 1997
Chuck A. Jones and Kelly Jones

I Travel These Backroads
In The Corners Of My Mind,
Memories, Like Old Houses
I Go Passin’ By.
Turn Left Down At The Stop Sign
By The Corner Store.
Where Grandpa Bought Me A Nickel Soda,
Piece Of Bubble Gum, Just A Penny More.

At A House Down By The River
I Stop To Rest Awhile.
I Watch My Baby Brother
Give Momma His First Smile.
Granny’s In The Kitchen
Payin’ Us For Our Chores-
We Swatted Flies For Granny,
And Every Fly Was A Penny More.

Bridge
If Memories Were Riches,
I’d Be Showered In Gold.
The Luckiest Man Living
With Wealth Untold.

Walkin’ Down That Ol’ Back Road
In The Corners Of My Mind,
I See That Old Fairlane
That My Daddy Used To Drive.
He Picks Me Up And He Drops Me Off
At That Corner Store.
Says, “Here’s A Nickel For A Soda.”
“How ‘Bout Some Bubble Gum, Dad?”
“Just A Penny More...”
