"improve the shining hour" gives a glimps at the incredible musical carier of gary lucas. i was lucky enough to see the man live in concert in sint niklaas (belgium), at the van vliet expo a couple of months ago, where he played a similar show and i have to admit that i was very impressed. at the live show, he played quite some beefheart, accompanied by stories from the time that he played with the captain. inevitably, an album like this, should also contain some van vliet pieces. 'flavor bud living' and 'her eyes are a blue million miles' were recorded during his tour with captain beefheart, 1980/07/12.

news from the fourfather's existance came from electric teejo. the fourfathers are a u.k. band that really is into captain beefheart: dennis martian: vocals; fast paul table: guitar; benjamin horrendous: bass, guitar; zark starfish: drums; vital willy: sax. they've played a small number of gigs up until now, and they've released one tape and two cdrs. if you're the slightest bit interested in the captain's muzik, this is essential listening. they've got a web-site as well. check them out. get these cdrs !!
