Sonic 2 debuted for the SEGA Genesis system November 24, 1992.

The Story

Miles "Tails" Prower, the Fox, can't sit still when Sonic's around. Ever since Miles was a baby fox, he's dreamed of being like Sonic. He loves to run after Sonic, waving his 2 tails behing him, trying to keep up with his hero!
Mostly, Sonic lets him trail along. But sometimes, just to show off, Sonic explodes in a brust of super speed and leaves him behind. But Miles doesn't give up. He whirls his tails like a helicopter rotor and takes off flying until he catches up!
All the animals call Miles by his nickname, "Tails," because of his 2 speical tails. And one day they saw an astonishing feat. . .
They were all together in the forest, watching Sonic perform. Sonic would run, spin and jump in his Super Spin Attack. Then "Tails" would whirls like a turbo engine and blast off in his Super Dash Attack. What a show-off!
Suddenly, "Tails" just couldn't help himself. He took a running start, curled up his tails, and --- whoosh --- he was spinning like Sonic!
But now something frightening is happening. Sonic's friends are disappearing. In their place, nasty metal robots are popping up all over the island. The mad scientist Dr. Robotnik is at it again!
This time, Robotnik's plannign a global disaster. He needs workers to create a doomsday machine that can take over the world. So he's trapping all the animals, turning them into robots, and forcing them to build his ultimate weapon, the Death Egg!
Robotnik now rules the factories, refineries and cities! He's grabbed control of everything --- except the 7 Chaos Emeralds. These magnificent gems are believed to hold exceptional powers. With them, Robotnik could have the entire world in his grasp. And he'd never let go!
The Chaos Emeralds are buried somewhere on the island. Only one tough dude with spiky hair has the speed to find them first!
Help Sonic stop the devious scheme of the demented scientist! Spin like a speedball thorugh space. Grab Power Sneakers and loop 'til you're dizzy. Twirl over twisting speedways and rocket through tunnels. Balance and blast across a bubbling ocean of oil!
Find the Emeralds, free the aniamls, and squash Robotnik forever!

Comic Adaptation

Sonic The Hedgehog Miniseries #1-3. This was a partial adaption, that was released before the established continuity. Note: This can also be considered as the adaption for Sonic 1.

Sonic the Hedgehog #0

Summary

This comic was the very first Sonic comic which introduces all the main characters as well as the foundation for the comic series. While attempting to escape Dr. Robotnik and his new invention - The Mega Muck, Sonic encounters Caterkiller one of the badniks from Sonic 1. After solving that problem, we are given our very first glimpse of the underground Knothole Base and The Freedom Fighters within by Sonic. What Sonic and the rest of the Freedom Fighters don't know is that Robotnik isn't through as a leak is soon discovered - in the form of Mobian Weeping Willows. While Sonic and the Freedom Fighters investigate, Robotnik and his badnik Crabmeat attack (another badnik from Sonic 1)!

My Thoughts

This was the best game I'd ever played up to that point. It totally blew Sonic 1 away! Twice as many levels, the introduction of Miles "Tails" Prower, the best special stage ever (I think), and best of all, the introduction of SUPER SONIC!! It was a totlat surprise to find the golden hedgehog, and one I'll never forget! It was the bigging of an actual story line that would be contiued in later games, unlike Sonic 1. A great idea!

Characters Introduced In This Game:

Levels in This Game:

(click on the names of the levels to see a picture from each)

Emerald Hill Zone
Originally named Green Hill Zone

Being the first level, this is the easiest in the game. Watch for the badniks, Buzzer, Masher, and Coconuts. Coconuts is the most annoying, as he likes to through the coconuts just as you jump at him. This level is a speedway with lots of loop-de-loops and corkscrew speedways! There are actually seven lamp posts total in this level so skilled players can get Super Sonic by the end of Act 2! Robotnik is easy. He comes on a car with a drill on the front. Just jump over him then nail him as he goes away. After six hits he shoots the drill, so watch out! One more hit and he's gone!

Chemical Plant Zone

This level is a lot harder than the first and can get difficult with all the different passages, and the toxic liquid "Mega Mack". Make sure you don't fall off those moving platforms as you will have a heck of a time trying to get back up without drowning in the "Mega Mack". Badniks in this level: Grabber, and Spiny. I always like to "feed" Tails to Grabber and watch himself destruct for nothing! Robotnik is easy in this level, espcially if you have Tails with you. Just have Sonic duck in the middle platform (the one that doesn't move) and have Tails nail Robotnik. The "Mega Muck" Robotnik drops on you will have no effect if your ducking as Sonic is protected by his quills! Eight hits and he's a goner!

Aquatic Ruin Zone
Originally named Neo Green Hill Zone

This beautiful level is the hardest yet as you must be on the consent lookout for arrow shooting poles, the three Badniks, Whisp, Grounder, and Chop Chop, watch for Grounder poping out of walls, and the ground from falling beneath your feet. If you fall under water, grab a few big air bubbles to keep your oxygen suppy full. Robotnik in this level is a bit more complicated. Two totem poll things will come out of the ground, and Robotnik will come down with a big hammer on his Egg-o-matic. As he hits the poles with the hammer, an arrow will come out. The arrows make a make-shift ladder which you can climb up to the top and nail Robotnik. Eight hits and he's toast!

Casino Night Zone

This level contiues the pinball style levels first seen in Spring Yard Zone from Sonic 1. Sparking neon lights and glittering gold fill this Casino with razzmatazz! Use the flippers to launch Sonic into the air and into the slot machines for super bonuses! Just watch out for getting all three Robotniks! There is only one Badnik in this level, Crawl. Crawl is a crab with a shield so you must hit him from behind to kill him. Robotnik is the hardest yet in this level. You get trapped in one room as Robotnik trys to drop bombs on you, he will also try to pick you up. Again, Tails really helps as Sonic can just try to avoid him and Tails try to hit him. Either use the flippers to hit Robotnik, or Spin Dash up the wall and try to fall on him. Eight hits and your off to Hill Top Zone!

Hill Top Zone

This level is a lot like Star Light Zone from Sonic 1. It is very easy, yet very fun to play. There are a couple new badniks here. Rexons, Spikers, Fire Orbanauts, and Invincible Orbanauts. The invisable orbanauts are the little flashing heads on the big teeter-totter things. WHhn you jump on one side, they launch into the air, so move to the other side and you'll get thrown sky high. Robotnik appears at the end of act 2 again as he rises up in a pool of lava between two platforms. He will try to torch you with fire, so jump to the other platform and let him have it when he comes up again. Eight hits and you'll send him sinking.

Mystic Cave Zone
Originally named Dust Hill Zone

This underground area is quite a new, fresh, and fun zone. Robotnik and crew are underground searching, rather unsucessfully, for the choas emeralds. It has two very annoying badniks, Flasher and Crawlton. Flasher is a lightning bug badnik that can only be killed when its light is off, unless of coarse you're invincible. Crawltons are spiked worms that pop out of the walls and hit you. They must be hit in the head to kill them. This zone is full of vines they can be switches or elevators. So jump on them! Robotnik appears at the end of act two in his egg-o-matic that is suped-up for digging. When he comes out of, or is going in the ceiling watch out for falling stalactities (big spikes). The smaller rounder, rocks can hit you without damage. Robotnik will also charge at you with his drills. Just hit him as he is coming down or going up, and jump over him as he charges to kill him.

Oil Ocean Zone

This zone shows Sonic traveling through Robotniks refineries that are pumping at full steam. Their crude oil has turned the ocean black! Watch out for slippery floors everywhere that can send you into the black ocean below. Try to stay high and dry in this level. The two badniks in this level are Octus, and Aquis. Aquis is the hardest badnik ever made! It comes flying out of nowhere and shoots you. Unless you remember where they come, just accept the hit! Robotnik appears in act two between two platforms in a Hill Top Zone copy. First a lazer comes out of the muck and fires at you three times, so dodge them. Watch for the shot that hits the platform, and sends a white fire burning across the platform. After the three shots, a spiked tail like thing comes out at you. Duck and it'll go right over you. Then, for some unkown reason, Robotnik comes out of his hiding place and you can hit him. Eight hits to sink him again.

The Metropolis Zone

Sonic has chased Robonik down to his capital city. Enter the Metroplolis Zone. This is the longest, and hardest zone in the game. With three acts, it came become annoying. The three badniks, all of which are tough, are Asteron, a star shaped badnik that clings to walls and explodes, shooting five spikes at you, Slicer is a mantus badnik that throws its bomerang-like claws at you, and Shellcraker, a crab that always seems to get in the way, and can only be kill from the top or the side with the small claw. This level is also filled with spinning cyclinders, hidden passages through the walls, and screws that screw up or down a giant nut, depending on which way you run. Robotnik is the hardest yet, appearing with seven balls that rotate around him and act as a shield. Dodge him and eventually the balls will get farther away from him, then you hit him. But what I like to do is get hit on purpose, and while I'm flashing, grab one ring then nail Robotnik as many times as I can to put some gaps in his "shield". After each hit, one ball comes off and inflates in to a Robotnik, which are easily destroyed. After the seven balloons are gone, he will come after you with a big laser. One hit more and he is toast!

Sky Chase Zone

Robotnik has manged to escape his city and has taken to the sky, go get him! This is the very first time we see Tails' Biplane, the Tornado! This is another very fun level to play, with Sonic wing walking on the Tornado. The only way you can fall off is by using the spin dash, so lay off that one. The three badniks in this level are Turtloids, a small turtle on a big turtle (kill the small turtle and use the big one as a pad to hit other ones!), Nebulas, little helicopter type things that try to get above you and drop spike balls, and Balkirys, a bird-jet that flys out of nowhere very fast and trys to run into you, so keep on the watch out for them! There is only one straight forward act in this level, with a little part in the middle showing the Wing Fortress flying by. Robotnik does not appear at the end of this level.

Wing Fortress Zone
Originally named Sky Fortress Zone

Sonic has found Robotnik's secret stronghold --- a flying battleship. Could this be Sonic's final fight? I don't think so! This one act zone (its kind of an act 2 of Sky Chase Zone) with a boss at the end. There is only one badnik in this level, Clucker, a robot chicken in a turret. Watch out for spinning propellers, moving ledges and be sure to grab the boxes on the wall when your being blown through the air, in this level. Robotnik is very hard in this zone, so always keep at least one ring, as I can almost guarantee you will be hit at least once at this boss. Robotnik will trap you in a little room and release three little platforms with spikes on the bottom. He will also try and blast you with the laser gun on the roof. Dodge the laser blasts and jump on the little moving platforms and hit the laser. Eight hits and your free. Before you drop down the hole right after the boss, be sure to jump over to the cockpit and get the hidden 1-Up. Now go back to the hole and you will see Robotnik blast off in yet another ship. Tails will come to the rescue in the fixed and impoved Tornado and catch up to Robotnik for you with the new jet engine. Sonic will then grab onto the side of Robotnik's jet and hang on to dear life as he enters the Death Egg Zone.

Death Egg Zone

You have chased Robotnik down to his final fighting ground, win now and win the game! This is another one act zone, but with two bosses. The first is Silver Sonic. His is quite easy when you get his pattern. You can only hit him when his is standing still, but don't hit his spikes! His pattern is roll (jump over him), whiz back and forth (roll when he's just about the run into you), jump over you (stand in the middle), roll, roll, whiz back and forth, jump over with knives (stand just to the left of the center), roll, roll, jump over, roll, whiz back and forth, roll, jump over, jump over with knives, roll, whiz back and forth. Eight hits and Silver Sonic is trashed! You will then chase Robotnik down and Robotnik will jump into a giant Robotnik suit! This is the final boss in the game. Robotnik will come out of the ground and begin walking towards you. You can hit him once when he stops walking and both hands are back, though I never do because it can be quite risky. He will then blast off into the air. I suggest for the next part to stand in the right corner, face left and wait for the cross hairs to lock on to you. Then quickly run to the left, but not that far. When he lands he will bob forward a bit then stand straight up again. Hit him when he bobs forward. He will now lean forward and launch both arms at you one at a time. Then run all the way over to the left and his arms won't be able to reach you. I find this the easiest way to beat him. Always try to stay in front of him, but if you get behind him, watch out for the bombs he'll launch at you. Twelve hits and you've won! Sit back and watch a great ending!

Special Stage

If you have 50 rings when you pass a Star Post, a Star Circle will appear around the Star Post. Jump in to enter the Special Stage. I find this to be the best special stage ever, where you run in a 3D half-pipe trying to get a lot of rings. Get the number required three times each stage and you will recieve a Choas Emerald! Collect all seven and you can become Super Sonic! This is the best part of the game, and best feature ever added to the Sonic Universe! To activate Super Sonic, collect all seven Choas Emeralds and 50 rinds, then jump into the air. As Super Sonic, your rings will slowly drain away, so keep a constant supply coming or you'll turn back into normal Sonic. Super Sonic is faster (so fast he actually flys), invicable (except to drowning, getting crushed, running out of time, and falling of a cliff), and can kill enemies just by touching them! Super Sonic also opens a different ending...

Sonic the Hedgehog Codes!

Debug Code

Do the Stage Select Code above. Go to Sound Test on Stage Select Menu and play songs 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4 (Sonic 2's release date: November 24th, 1992). You will hear a chime if you did this correctly. Then hold Button A and press start on the stage you want. In the game, Button B selects debug mode or normal Sonic, button A will change the object that you are, and button C places the object on the screen.

Slow Motion

Perform the Debug Code and during the game press start to pause, then press and hold button B.

Frame By Frame

Perform the Debug Code and during the game press start to pause, then press button C to move one single frame.

Instant Super Sonic

Do the Stage Select Code above. Go to Sound Test on Stage Select Menu and play songs 4, 1, 2, 6. Then pick a stage, collect 50 Rings, and jump to become Super Sonic!

Super Sonic

Fourteen Continues

Do the Level Select Trick above, reset, and select Options on the title screen. On Sound Test, play sounds 1, 1, 2, and 4. Then move to the Character Selection Option and press Start.

Get All Emeralds Before Starting the Game

Perform the Level Select code and in the level select menu, go to Special Stage. Win the stage and collect the emerald. It will then start the game. Push reset, do not turn of the power, and perform the Level Select again. Go to special stage and win the next emerald. And push reset. Keep doing this until you have all six emeralds, and on the sixth emerald do not reset it again, but let it keep going and start the game from the beginning.

Ashura the Hedgehog

To do this cheat you must first enter the stage select codes. Play as Sonic on Emerald Hill Zone. Press B to turn into an item. press A & cycle through the items until you get an item that looks invisible (it's right after the thing that looks like four rings). Place a bunch of the waterfalls until the ring counter gets a bluish tint. press B again to change to Sonic. Walk around a bit & you'll be Ashura. He should be just like Sonic only black and green instead of blue.

Super Sonic and Super Tails at the same time

Go into options and make sure it's Sonic and Tails. Enter in stage select, go into the stage select screen, then enter in the super Sonic and debug codes. Go into Emerald Hill (or any zone with Tails in it), turn into a ring, and give Tails lots of rings. Turn into super Sonic, then turn back into a ring. Flip through the items until you get to the item box. Make one, turn back into Sonic and pop it. When it gets back to normal, Tails will have sparkles, Sonic will look like Super Sonic, but he is just like normal. Get hit by a robot, and turn back into a ring. Give Tails lots of rings, and turn back into Super Sonic. Sonic and Tails both are now Super!

Hyper Sonic

Go to Oil Ocean Zone, Act 2 and go foward until you see the green jet power springs. Hop on the very last one and hold Right. You will hit a section of spikes and will fall back down into the side of the wall (where if you look closely, there are spikes right below you). Jump out (before the spikes kill you) and you will notice you will jump much higher (like Hyper Sonic). You won't change color and you are not invincible, and the effect is only temporary.

Mega Sonic

Go to Oil Ocean Zone, Act 2 and follow the directions listed above to become "Hyper Sonic." Now collect 50 rings and jump, and you will become Mega Sonic. Mega Sonic is much faster and can jump much higher (like Hyper Sonic). Like Hyper Sonic, however, Mega Sonic doesn't change color and isn't invincible, and the effect is only temporary.

Tails to Miles Mode

On title screen, press Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Up. You should hear a chime if you entered the code correctly. What the code does is make the game call Tails, Miles in certain parts, and supposedly vice versa.

Two Tails in Sky Chase Zone

Enter the Stage Select and Debug Codes, then go to Sky Chase Zone. Using the debug mode, create a transfer box (like in the competition) and break it open. When you hear Sonic die, press Button B to enter debug mode again. Move the cursor up until you see Tails and exit debug mode. To finish, jump and you will have two Tails under you.

Wing Fortress Shortcut #1

Kill the very first Clucker you come to in the Wing Fortress. Jump on the turret, run and jump on to the platform to the right. It is hard but you can make it. Above you will see spinning blades. Jump into them and you will be sucked up, without being hit, halfway through the level!

Wing Fortress Shortcut #2

In the Wing Fortress Zone, go as far as you can into the stage without climbing. Make sure you have collected some rings along the way. When you see blades blocking your way, go ahead and and hit them. As soon as you're invincible, walk through them. Jump on the platforms to the right, and half the level will be finished.

Play at night

To play at night, enter the Debug code above, then hold C and press Start to begin a level.

Shielded Tails

To give Tails a permenate sheild, enter debug mode above and hit a shield. Then place a teleport box down and hit that.
