Josie Kreuzer & Sun 209 Rattle Rock n Bowl!
Josie glowed in the dark with a ghostlike ethereal presence and the ghosts of all the legends came out to dance! Like a cat ready to pounce, the shy and sweet kitten was playful and pensive when she took the stage but when she started singing she became one red hot wild feline! Looking like Marilyn in River of No Return, she was dressed in a simple polka-dot western shirt tied at the waist with levis and cowboy boots. Only a chick like Josie (or Marilyn) could make it look that sexy!
This band makes you feel like you're back in 59 at a honky tonk or bowling alley lounge someplace out west...but shucks, New Orleans was fine too. Her two guys, being billed as "Sun 209" after Elvis' 1st Sun single (That's Alright Mama/Blue Moon of Kentucky) Davey on upright bass & Adam on guitar looked like they just stepped outa a pic of Hank Williams Sr.' band. The sound was similar-- roots rockabilly, that slappin bass, twangy guitars and of course, Ms. Kreuzer's wailin vocals which kept the house hypnotized. What was most interesting to me, was how everyone came running over from the other side of the club and even the bowlers seemed to freeze in time to see what was creating this unique music!
They played the rev-ed up favorites from her cd, HOT ROD GIRL, like "Wild Man" and "Honey Pie" and folks started dancing. They also did some new tunes, stuff off Josie's upcoming cd? Someone wanted to hear "One Way Love" so we requested it. Josie said it wasn't planned, the band didn't really know it but they'd wing it. You could hear a pin drop while she sang the haunting blues that is as powerful a song as Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit." Then the enthusiastic applause! Josie writes songs that make you wanna dance one minute and weep in your beer the next!
If you want to hear something so old it's NEW, check out this band and you will be pleasantly surprised. (If you're a guy, you'll be in love!)
