Latest news related with Depeche Mode. No unbelievable rumours you can find here! All news're taken from BONG (Official fan club), Official DM Web-site, Mute Records, Reprise Records and whole internet. Updated as soon as possible (once a week usually). Compiled by Alex Davie.
New single possibly will be released before Christmas and the new album titled "Mutter" is likely to be released early 2001. A new mixing round takes place this month in Sweden with the band, producer Jacob Hellner (Clawfinger) and mixer Stefan Glaumann (Clawfinger, Drain STH). Live dates are scheduled for January and February in New Zealand and Australia. A European tour will start in May and continue to the USA.
Martin Gore and his friend Paul Freegard visited Vancouver, Canada, during the recent two week break from the work on the new album. They worked on 2 new Depeche Mode songs during an 8-day stay, before they returned to the studio in California. So far a total of twelve new songs are being recorded. Paul Freegard has said that the new album will be minimalistic and a bit weird with brilliant songs. During the break, David Gahan went to his wife in New York and Andy Fletcher to London.

YAHOO!!! It's time to see what Dave Gahan said for us:
DAVID: OK. Hi. Back again. So, this is where I do a lot of my vocals, as they're working in there. You've got Mark Bell, the producer. They're actually working on this, what you hear right now. I'm actually working on some vocals to this too. What I'm doing is, I'm using Pro Tools. I record my vocals in here, on the mic, and it goes into the Pro Tools here - this is me, as you can see here. This is to a song called "Sweetest Condition". And then I burn that, take it in there, give it to Mark, he puts it into his computer, and runs it through the desk there - see if it's ok. So we're doing three things at a time. Actually, Martin is in here as well, and what he's doing right now is he's been sampling sounds and stuff. Also what he does in there is he's working on some little pieces of music to go in between some songs - and he's supposed to be writing some new songs too. But we got a lot of songs. We're in really good shape. I can guarantee this is going to be the best Depeche Mode album for a long time. And we will be touring next year, which I'm looking forward to as well - I'm in really good shape. I'm excited about it all. See you soon.

Depeche Mode continue to publish new video-messages on their web-site. Now it's time for words of Martin Gore & Andy Fletcher:
MARTIN: Hello, this is Martin Gore, and I'm here in the studio in a separate little room from the rest of the band. At the moment I'm just working on a few link pieces maybe for the album. And I'm doing some sampling, and working on some separate bits that we need. And as you probably know, we're about half way through the recording, and things are going really well. There's a positive vibe in the studio with the band, and we're looking forward to having this record out finally. I don't know why they're called records anymore, but I come from a different generation. We're hoping to get it out sometime soon, and then maybe come out on tour straight after that. I hope to see you then.
ANDY: Good day. I'm Andy Fletcher as you probably know. The greatest synth player in the world - synth bass player in the world. I'm cycling around the studio. It's all so busy, and I have to go around so fast, from Dave to Martin, et cetera et cetera. We're recording a really good album at the moment. We're just about halfway through it, and it sounds really fantastic, and I'm not just saying that. I think it's going to be our best album ever. Anyway, see you later.
Later you will see Dave's message!

As you possibly know Depeche Mode are currently working on arrangements in the US. Their producer is Mark Bell. Plus some news update - extra musicians are used - a string section (string quartet and a solo cello). Knox Chandler (the solo cello player) also arraged the quartet. Number of tracks on upcoming album (tentatively) - 9 or 10.
The Band recorded a special video greeting for their fans.
Transcript:
ANDY: I would like to say a big hello to all our fans on our web site, and I'd like to introduce our new producer, Mr. Mark Bell. As you see, he's got a lovely smile, and Martin here, and Dave. Dave wants to say something.
DAVE: I do. We are probably about half way through, maybe a little bit more, recording our new album, as yet untitled of course. It's going really well. Martin's written some great songs. We're all in good shape. We'll be mixing it the last part of the year, and hopefully be finished by Christmas, so get ready because in the Spring of next year, we should have a new album out, followed by a tour of course, so we look forward to seeing you then.

News update from Madonna - second single from Music album will be "Don't Tell Me". Yey!
This info was taken from De/vision infoservice, 30.august 2000 6pm
"Hello
Markus (music and keyboards) left the band. He have personal and musically reasons. Markus will still make music with other people. Updates through this information list. No more details to this topic.
Steffen and Thomas will continue as De/vision and they are working on songs for the next cd which COULD be release next summer.
Steffen must write now all the music alone, and so we are very very busy and play more concerts. Only one concert in germany is possible, but there is nothing decided.
Steffen sings also with many other famous bands an song called “HEAL YOURSELF”. Try to translate something on www.healyourself.de . This is a benefiz project like band-aid. Releasedate is end of September.
We would like to release a REMIX-CD , but we have no permission from our old record company WEA to use the 5 requested tracs. Maybe next year…"
Davie's comment: Recently I changed my opinion on this band... they were really cool, especially Monosex album... but now they seems to be broken down... Sad but true.
The band are now back in the studio, in the USA this time, for next two or three months, working on arrangements for about 10 new songs.

Skinny Puppy's reunion concert at the end of Doomsday had a great success. An impressively large crowd with visitors from all over the world watched a drumming Cevin Key and a theatrical Nivek Ogre do a classic Puppy show with pyrotechnics, a puppet, blood, screens and an extravagant lightshow. Hits like "Smothered Hope", "Choke", "Worlock" and "Testure" were lined up in versions close to the original ones.
The official Nine Inch Nails website has announced that the forthcoming remix album "Things Falling Apart" is scheduled for release on October 10th. The record contains 10 tracks of unreleased material and new remixes by Adrian Sherwood, Dave Ogilvie, Charlie Clouser, Keith Hillebrandt, Danny Lohner, Telefon Tel Aviv, Trent Reznor/Alan Moulder and more.
NIN is currently at Nothing Studios, New Orleans, working on audio mixing and video editing for the November live DVD/VHS of the "Fragility v2.0 Tour".
U2's new album "All That You Can't Leave Behind" will out in late October. The 11-track album was produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and will be preceded by the new single "Beautiful Day" on October 9, which has also been reworked into a house version by DJ Paul Oakenfold. The single will feature two brand new U2 extra tracks in the form of "Summer Rain" and "Always", as well as live versions of "Discotheque" and "If You Wear That Velvet Dress". Both the latter are taken from "Pop" album and were recorded live in Mexico City.
Great news from Skinny Puppy - Cevin Key and Nivek Ogre are currently working hard to prepare their Skinny Puppy reunion show at Dresden's Doomsday Festival on August 20th. This is the first time Skinny Puppy will play in Europe since 1988 and the first life-sign after five years of passivity. The band promises a spectacular show with the classic Puppy special pyrotechnic, splatter, multimedia and light effects, which will be similar to the "Last Rights" Tour (1992). This time, they are also co-operating with the German cult horror director Jorg Buttgereit.
The interest for this one-time concert is naturally huge. Actually, few events in the modern history of electro and industrial can measure up with this. The festival site has been moved in order to handle more people and visitors will show up from all over the world - Russia, China, South Africa, USA and so forth. For those who can't go to Doomsday, the concert will be recorded for a live CD release, "Back & Forth Vol 5: Doomsday".
Front 242 plan several live dates in Europe, Brazil and USA. It's not known if they will perform any new material live. Here are the current live dates:

The work title for Bjork's next studio album is "Domestica" and Bjork has described it as an opposite to "Selmasongs". It will be "gentle, humorous, happy and kind".

According to a Wall of Sound interview with Robert Smith, he is planning in year 2001 a solo album with guest artists. He claims that after the touring and promotional activities surrounding the final Cure album "Bloodflowers" have ended, he will start working solo and get in touch with some of the musicians he has encountered throughout the years for a possible collaboration. He feels it's unwise to pursue these ideas under The Cure label, since it might spoil the band's image.
