Hits the Atmosphere When the band first released the songlist of "This Desert Life", I was immedeately attracted to this song. All I could think about was "how cool the title sounded". That fact plus the band mentioning it in interviews as 'probably the best song we've ever done' made me even look forward to this song more. Of all the songs on the album...THIS was the one I was dying to hear. Funny though when I first heard the title, visions of a psychdelic, all out....fast song flashed about my head. i don't know why, but the idea of it being as such seemed so perfect....imaging my surprise, and initial disappointment when I realized it wasn't. Even before actually hearing the song, I had already known it wasn't the fast 'rocker' I was hoping for it to be. But encouraging feedback from people who had already heard it helped strengthen my resolve that I would really try and give it a chance. ------------------ My first impression? One word came to mind...clunky. I dunno, I guess with all my expectations for this song, it was inevitable that the 'first listen' wouldn't go so well. But as I said before, I was determined to give this song the chance it deserved. Now after listening to it over and over again, I can confidently say that it's beautiful ( I noticed that I tend to describe a lot of their songs as such...but well, what can I say? they really are...beautiful, each in their own unique way). ------------------ True, the song isn't VERY catchy and can get dragging sometimes, but that's not were the strength of the song lies. Amy Hits the Atmosphere is a 'story of triumph'. It tells the story of a person who made it 'out of the gutter'. Did something about the bad situation she was in. At the same time, we have the chorus that serves as a warning to others, that sometimes (ok, most of the time) we gotta take things into our own hands, we can't keep waiting for things to happen for us. I see this song as the perfect add-on to "Angels of the Silences", that fantastic song about faith and having faith in something. "AMTA" explores the 'other side' and opens our eyes to the fact that sometimes...the wait is not enough, sure enough 'faith' will help you wait longer, but somewhere down the road, you gotta use your faith to get up and do something more. AOTS introduced us to 'having faith' in something, and AMTA shows us how to USE that faith, tries to encourage us to 'catch our own rocket ride'. |
