Antalya
Our next stop was the city of Antalya where we stayed in the best hotel of our entire honeymoon trip - Club Hotel Sera. This is a seaside resort facing the Aegean Sea and the view is spectacular! Being from a tropical country, I guess that it was in our genes to immediately go and soak in the seawater, which we did and found that the water was freezing cold! I think we were the only ones who did that...the rest of the hotel guests were contented just lazing around :-)

Scenes from the theatre at AspendosWe visited the ruins of Perge and the Roman amphitheatre at Aspendos. Perge used to be a fortifed city but now what remains are the ruins of the city walls and a marketplace. The theatre at Aspendos is still in operation, and they were setting up for a festival featuring Verdi's epic opera "Aida".
We then went to see the Duden waterfalls, which is quite a sight since the water remains underground until less than a hundred meters before the falls. According to our guide, that is why the waterfall does not dry up even during a drought which affects the rest of the region. We initially wanted to take a cruise to see another portion of the waterfall (from the same river source). The river actually continues all the way until another drop-off into the Aegean Sea. The plan was to get to see this sea waterfall via the boat and then continue on to our hotel jetty. But due to the big waves, this was cancelled. Sigh!
The next day, we visited the rock tombs of Myra which were pretty impressive since these were carved out of solid rock. We also visited the Church of St Nicholas, otherwise known as Santa Claus. Funny thing is, he doen't look at all like the famous fat Santa in the red suit (that's because the red suit is the creation of Coca-Cola). He is famous 'cos he's kind towards children.
Later that day, we went for a cruise to visit the sunken city of Kekova. During the visit, we even had some free-time swimming in a lagoon (yep, from the boat) but unfortunately, not at the sunken city (which is forbidden) . It was extremely relaxing, and a welcoming break from the usual sightseeing-busride-sightseeing-busride trip schedule.
Next stop, after 2 days at Antalya, will be Fethiye.
