"Dragons of Heaven", also known as the "Seven Seals" are the seven who choose to protect the present world. And obviously, they fight against the "Dragons of Earth". The following is a quote from Hinoto, who gathers the "Dragons of Heaven": "There are countless kekkai set up by our predecessors in Tokyo. If Tokyo is destroyed by a great earthquake...These Kekkai will also collapse. That's why the qualifications for the Seven Seals is the creation of Kekkai. In this world, there are merely seven who can create the Kekkai, which will save the Earth. The Seven Seals."

Kamui Shirou
The Fate of the Earth holds in the hands of this high school sophomore -- Kamui Shirou. He and his mother Tooru left Tokyo 6 years ago due to the tragedy that happened in the Monou family. 2 weeks before Kamui returned to Tokyo, his mother died. And before her death, she urged Kamui, "Go back to Tokyo, your future is waiting for you there." So there he is in Tokyo, where he faces the biggest decision which concerns the Future of the Earth: to become a Dragon of Heaven, or a Dragon of Earth. Kamui has no intention to fight for the sake of the Earth, but he does have someone whom he wishes to protect. The name "Kamui" has 2 meanings: 1) one who represents the majesty of God, 2) onewho hunts the majesty of God.

Sorata Arisugawa
A lively Kansai boy from Osaka who is in his 2nd year of High school, the one raised by the famous "Stargazer of Kouya" Stargazer Chuu at Mt. Kouya. Grandpa Stargazer, as Sora-chan calls him, took him away from his parents when he was only three because Sorata was born as one of the "Seven Stars of the sky", for the sake of protecting the Earth. "Sora" in Japanese means "sky", and it appears in the first part of Sorata's name. Grandpa Chuu also foretold him that he was destined to die for the woman he loves. Sorata knows that Grandpa's stargazing has never been wrong, therefore he prefers choosing to die for a beautiful woman. And he made up his mind on Arashi Kishuu. Sorata's power can even rival the founder of Kouya. The kekkai he creates takes the shape of a cube.

Arashi Kishuu
Her real self is the Kakushi Miko "Hidden Shrine Maiden" of the Ise Shrine, who is the protector of Ise, and possess the power of the shrine, which will not be used unless it is absolutely necessary. The true form of the power is hidden in the sword which is sheathed inside Arashi's hand. She usually dresses in sailor-stayle school uniform. As one of the seven Seals, her kekkai takes the form of a pyramid. Arashi is very attractive (especially to Sorata), but at the same time, she is an absolute coolness. Her name is scary -- Kishuu, in kanji, means "ghost" + "curse".

Seiichirou Aoki
He recently switched jobs from being an editor of Yasejidai to that of Asuka, a monthly shoujo manga magazine in which X itself is serialized. He is a "windmaster" which means his power comes from the wind. His nephew, Daisuke Saiki, is another windmaster in X. Maybe "ki" in both of their lastnames signifies that? Seiichirou has met Yuzuriha before but we are not told of the details. In the anime, he's a normal salary man who wants to protect Tokyo in which his wife and daughter live happily.

Karen Kasumi
Her power is related to fire. She loves the present "Tokyo" and wishes to protect it. Karen is a beautiful woman who works in a soapland (where man obtain a sponge bath from female attendant usually in lingerie or naked) called "Flower". According to Karen, Tokiko used the spell of kotodama, and told her to tell Kamui to "guard the Holy Sword", and commanded her to burn down her house just before she got taken away by a group of people in suits. The word "ka" in her last name means "summer" which is usually hot, thus indirectly related to fire.

Yuzuriha Nekoi
She is a very lively 14-year-old girl from Mitsumine Shrine, the one that uses wolves as the servant spirit. This family uses "Inugami" (spirit of dog) to defeat demons. Yuzuriha's Inugami is called "Inuki", who can change into any form according to Yuzuriha's will. Only people with supernatural powers can see her Inuki. She felt so lonely sometimes that she had said if someone would be able to see Inuki, "maybe I'll even fall in love with that person". "Nekoi" means cat. As she says, this is a concealing name. A side note: Yuzuriha's name in kanji was apparently changed in the course of the manga. In her first several appearances, part of her name, "yuzuri", was written in kanji, which means "to yield/to turn over/to let". Later on, it was changed to a different kanji, meaning "to protect/to defend" (which should be read as "mamoru"). Clearly, they are two different words with different meanings and I have wondered why her name was changed.

Subaru Sumeragi
He is one of the "Dragons of Heaven", the 13th head of the Sumeragi-clan, the topmost onmyouji in Japan. Subaru has had a past with another onmyouji, Seishirou Sakurazuka. Right now, they stand for their own side, the "Dragon of Heaven" against "Dragon of Earth". Subaru has become quiet and serious after the incident which happened in the past between them (see Tokyo Babylon). Subaru declares that he has no interest in the future of the earth, and that there is only one thing he wishes to do -- to kill Sakurazukamori.

Hinoto
She is blind and of the size of a young girl although she has lived for many years already. She cannot speak, hear or see, but she directly "talks" into your brain. She is a dreamgazer who tells the future for the political individuals in the basement of the Diet building in Tokyo. She is constantly urging Kamui to join the Seals to save the earth. She can enter other people's dreams. Hinoto gathers the Dragons of Heaven while her sister, Kanoe, gathers the Dragons of Earth. The word Hinoto, in the onmyoujyutsu belief in the Japanese religion, is related to "fire".

Daisuke Saiki
He is one of the wind-master of the story, the other being Seiichirou Aoki. He was the first one to fight with Kamui and was seriously injured. Since then he thinks that Kamui is not the "Kamui" that they are trying to look for because this "Kamui" does not care about the public -- he does not make a kekkai before he fights... He thinks that this "Kamui" is too cruel to be the "Kamui" to save the earth. Daisuke is very loyal to the "Dreaming Princess" Hinoto, and seems that he will protect Hinoto with his life. Daisuke turns out to be Seiichirou Aoki's nephew. Daisuke and Arashi also seem to know each other beforehand. It's possible that it's because of Daisuke's family, who is affiliated with the Ise Shrine.

Hien & Souhi
Only appearing in the manga, Hien and Souhi are Hinoto's two faithful servants. They call Hinoto "princess" because their parents used to serve Hinoto and that was what they used to call Hinoto. Anyway, Hien and Souhi always appear together, and they respect everything that Hinoto says. Souhi roughly means "blue-ice" while Hien can mean "red-flame".

Nokoru Imonoyama
Nokoru is the president of the CLAMP Gakuen's Student Body. He is a crossover character from CLAMP's CLAMP Gakuen Tanteidan and Dukylon as a grade 6 student. The Imonoyama family owns the CLAMP campus, therefore Nokoru has a lot of power t here. The adult Nokoru in X, as in his younger years in the other works, is caring for women.

Suoh Takamura
Suoh is the secretary of the CLAMP Gakuen's Student Body. He is a crossover character from CLAMP's CLAMP Gakuen Tanteidan and Hagun Seisenki as a grade 5 student. Not much of the adult Suoh is described in X so far, but in his younger years, he's very good in sports.

Akira Ijyuin
Akira is the treasurer of the CLAMP Gakuen's Student Body. He is a crossover character from CLAMP's CLAMP Gakuen Tanteidan and 20 Menshou Onegai as a grade 4 student. Little is known about the adult Akira in X but in the other works, he is known as a good cook and a skillful thief.
