Reminiscing...

At the beginning of Fall 1999 at the College of San Mateo, my [former] Ethnic Studies teacher, Mr. Joe Chung Fong, addressed the BAA-ACS/Meeting of the Minds banquet to his class. It was one of the first things he mentioned at the beginning of the semester, even before he started his curriculum. Mr. Fong did put a lot of emphasis on it, for his students' benefit of course.

I actually joined the organization at the second meeting. I talked to Dandy Wong, Co-founder of HAA-AS, explained my situation, and asked if it was still okay to join. I gave him my phone number [with my crappy handwriting], and that's how I basically joined. Whether it be with BAA-ACS or with HAA-AS, there were periodic meetings that were conducted in various places--from CSM to SFSU.

I was very fortunate to work with HAA-AS. Like with life, our group too endured through our dilemmas: not turning in our ticket money on time, lack of gathering sponsors at the beginning...trying to make a karaoke tape. I've seen my fellow members get stressed or get nervous up until that faithful night. [I'll say it again, I was very fortunate to have so many determined members in my group!] Fortunately, everything would go off without a hitch.

So on Friday, December 3, 1999 [6:30 P.M.]...BAA-ACS launched its seventh annual banquet fundraiser at the Imperial Garden Seafood Restaurant [located on 2626 San Bruno Avenue], thus completing months of planning, hard work, and dedication...and turning it into solid reality. It was also mentioned that we raised a COOL $6000 at the event. Not bad at all!!!

There were more dedicated individuals that I failed to mention on this webpage, and if it weren't for them, the banquet would have probably been a Greek tragedy. With that in mind, I apologize. I do want to let them know that their efforts were never forgotten.

To me, this night was a little more meaningful. Since this may be the last time I will be seeing any of my fellow HAA-AS members all together [I'm going back to CCSF to finish my schooling there], I wanted to do something special to those guys that I had the pleasure of meeting this semester. I have seen my group work together on this through thick and thin. I didn't want our impressions left to a mere camcorder and some photos. [I asked my friends to video tape and take pictures of the whole banquet, so I too have some footage of the event.] I had the motivation to do something extra for HAA-AS, and this is the result.

So with some time invested on HTML tags and codes, a camera loaded with pictures from the banquet, and my soul poured onto what you see before you, I do hope you enjoy my very small gesture of friendship.

THANX...for Everything,

Carl Reyes...[12/04/99]

[Note to Mr. Fong: Feel free to use my webpage as reference to any of your future BAA-ACS functions. I feel that it's about time that the rest of the globe shared your vision. Also feel free to inform whomever I haven't had the chance to mention this to. Just wanted to let you know, as long as Geocities doesn't kick me out, this impression will be left here...always.]

[Note to Dandy Wong: Don't forget what I wrote in the card that I gave you.]

[Note to all HAA-AS members: Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this fine group and for your cooperation that night. It is to you all that I dedicate this webpage to!]
