The West Room Opens New Home, New Focus
VICTORIA, British Columbia
The Runker Room, home page of Tadaaki Hiruki has followed its creator and maintainer westward to the Garden City,
Victoria BC, after a year and a half in Toronto ON. Paralleling the physical move, the website
has found a new location in cyberspace at GeoCities.
A leaner Runker Room arrived on the West Coast. The establishment of a
National Association of Japanese Canadians website
provided a home for the Nikkei Nexus
and the Toronto NAJC website.
The latter in turn now hosts and maintains the
Toronto Japanese Canadian Community Event Calendar.
New pages will no doubt emerge at Runker Room as replacements for these.
Whether they will deal with Japanese Canadian topics is uncertain --
at first glance, not much Japan-related seems to happen
in this very British of towns. The overall mission of this contribution to the World Wide Web
is unchanged and remains similar to that of other home pages: to entertain, educate,
and provide a link between people of similar interests.
The computer which originally housed the homepage files has been retired.
The damage suffered at the birth of the website (see Original Birth Announcement)
started a slowly accelerating decline, which towards the end saw yet another peripheral dying each month.
The new laptop is a sturdy, bulletproof Toshiba, fitted with a compact disc player which will help
pass the hours of HTML tweaking that lie ahead!
