Iwas born in Vienna in 1962 , but I grew up in the countryside outside the city. After finishing secondary school, I attended a Technical College in Wiener Neustadt, a pleasant small town, where I began to study electrical engineering. In 1982 I started studying for my degree in the same subject at the Technical University of Vienna, in the field of communication engineering and in1989 I qualified as a "Diplomingenieur," the equivalent of a BSc in Electrical Engineering.
At present I am working as an engineer at a company called Kapsch AG. in Vienna, developing hard- and software in the field of wireless communication, GSM/communication engineering. My area of work covers analog techniques (e.g. high-frequency engineering/sound-engineering), digital signal processing and writing computer programs in assembler languages (PLM-51 for 80C51 microcontrollers and 87C654), Turbo-Pascal and Windows. I am also Project Manager of a small group of employees.
During my student days I developed an interest in photography and for some years managed the photographic club in my student hostel. I ran several courses and workshops in photography and I also put on a few slide-shows myself. It was around this time too, that I took up scuba diving and underwater-photography. Nowadays I sometimes have articles published in Austria's leading Scuba Diving magazine called "MEGADIVE". Some of my images are sold by Vienna's Picture Agency Viennaslide.
Another hobby of mine is sailing and I have a OESV-B-Licence, enabling me to sail at sea. I am also qualified to drive moter-vessels on the open sea, up to 20 miles from the shore, as I have the Yacht-Master-Licence F2. This interest developed from my passion for scuba diving, as it is so much more enjoyable to charter a boat and seek out diving sites myself.
And - last but not least - I am also a keen musician! I play piano and keyboard and also write for the piano and additional instruments (violin and flute). It is this music that I use to provide the accompaniment to my slide-shows.
And what would life be without children?
My wife and I have three children, who are all keen to be involved in my
hobbies - and why not? Claudia, our eldest child, is a talented violinist;
Johannes, our second child, wants to join my scuba diving team and Markus,
the youngest, loves to join in with everything! So I have a ready-made
band; an adequate sailing-crew and plenty of diving partners (my wife is
a scuba diver too)!!
