Drunken Master 2; 1994

Pictures Posters

Sixteen years after first Drunken Master, one of Jackie Chan's break through films alongside Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. Both of these early work were directed by a veteran martial arts movie maker Yuen Woo Ping. This time Jackie Chan was to be his own director. At the beginging of filming Lau Kar Leung was the director, but Jackie fired him halfway through the filming. After that Lau Kar Leung wanted to make a 'real' Drunken Master sequel, so he made a fiml called Drunken master 3. DM3 is a meant to be a sequel to the first Drunken Master, it ignores part 2 and tells the story of young Wong Fei Hong played by Willie Kwai. Willie Kwai is the same person who was in Burning Paradise altho his name was printed as Willie Chi.

Drunken master is not a sequel, actually, but more like a new version of the original theme. But it is a superb martial arts film. For example the fight secuence betweem Jackie Chan and his real-life body guard, Lan Hui Kwong, is the most intricately choreographed spectacle you're likely to ever see. It's really amazing if I may say so.

In Drunken Master 2 comedy is actually very funny, especially in the beginging of the film there is a lot of funny stuff alongside some really amazin fighting sequences. But in the final fight Jackie can really feel the heat. In fact he'll get burned quite badly. After all Drunken Master gives us the reason to watch Jackie Chan films over and over again. One of the most enjoyable Jackie Chan films, absolutely recommended.
