Women in India are traditionally clad in sarees. The saree in each region differs in texture, style, color, workmanship and its mode of being draped. This gives a woman a distinctive identity, representing the community she belongs to. The sari is as old as India itself. Women have worn it for centuries. Sarees are certainly unmatched for the grace and dignity that they award the wearer.
The sarees exist in many lengths and forms. The size of the saree differs from region to region. The woven part of this draped costume varies from one and a quarter meters to three and a half meters. Some sarees stretch to as long as 8.2 meters, and are popularly known as nine yards saree, especially worn in weddings. Traditional weavers weave dreams in pure cotton on handlooms. Cotton sarees are comfortable in the scorching Indian summer. Also available are the embroided sarees, brocade sarees and the sarees deigned using hand blocks.
