One of my favorite musicians is Jimmy Buffett. His songs have gotten me through many a cold winter night just dreaming about sailing the warm tropical oceans.

The song Lone Palm off the Fruitcakes album has lyrics that I like very much:
"My garden is filled with papayas and mangos
My life is a mixture of reggaes and tangos
Taste for the good life, I can live it no other way
While out on the beach there are two empty chairs
That say more than the people who ever sit there
From under my lone palm I can look out on the day"

ParrotHead Suz' Jimmy Buffett Links A pretty cool JB page with lots of areas to explore and participate. Ask Suz about the "Two Fins Up!" award for your Buffett site. Suz is a member of the Parrot Head Ring.
A1A - The Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band I've hear a lot of good things about this band. Check out their web site. They've got lots of info there on the band including some WAV files to listen to. "Some White People Can Dance" - A1A with Greg "Fingers" Taylor. A1A is also putting on their 6th Annual A1A "Tacky Cruise" to the Caribbean Islands. Sounds like a fun trip!
The founder, lead singer, guitarist and programmer for A1A is Jeff Pike and he has a personal web page as well. From looking over his site, it looks like he got to play with the Head Parrot himself! That was probably a whole lotta fun.

If neither of these work for you try connecting directly through your RealAudio application:
Apparently, the sites that used to make it available have lost some sort of license. You can get there directly by opening up your RealAudio player, selecting FILE/OPEN LOCATION, type in...

It should start playing in a second or two. Next time you go into the RealAudio player, select OPEN RECENT and you should see PARROT RADIO there for selection. (from Paulie on the Buffett listserve)

As you probably know, Jimmy owns and flies his own seaplanes. He's crashed a Grumman G-44 Widgeon near Nantucket a few years ago. His other seaplane is a 1954 Grumman HU-16 Albatross that has the words "Air Margaritaville" on the sides of the plane under the front windows.
I've found a site where you can view images of seaplanes like the ones that Jimmy owns, as well as various other seaplanes. It's the Water Birds web page. Another Grumman related site is Gneech's Grumman Goose Page.
I fell in love with the Grumman Goose after seeing it on the Tales of the Golden Monkey TV show. I think that it would be lots of fun to actually fly one of these beautiful old birds south to the middle latitudes. Definitely time to taxi out into the bay.
Jimmy also owned a Lake Renegade seaplane that he named Lady Of The Waters.
(In case you were wondering, this isn't actually Jimmy's plane. Just a photo of a Lake Renegade that I found on the Internet)
I saw this plane on the 60 Minutes interview that JB did (the show was aired on May 11, 1997). The Lake Renegade looks like a very cool seaplane. You can read Buffett's thoughts on his Lake Renegade in the Official Parrothead Handbook. It has a section called Why I love my seaplane.
The June 1995 issue of Water Wings magazine has an article on Homebuilt Seaplanes. The Lake Renegade is featured there along with a bunch of other cool looking planes.
"Jimmy sold the Lake Renegade years ago. He would fly it in salt water and would not take care of it. The corrosion was pretty bad. It was before Jimmy had people to take care of the planes. That clip shown on the 60 Minutes interview is file footage from an old TV show called 57th Street. It was a news magazine before Prime Time Live, and other shows like that. It was a story on Key West, not just Jimmy. You can do a search in www.landings.com of aircraft, and you will find that Jimmy owns 3 planes at the moment. A Cessna Citation, The Albatross, and a Cessna Caravan. Just do a search of owners under the name 'Strange Bird, Inc.'."
I received the corrected information on the Albatross and the Lake Renegade from ConchFlyr. Thankx for the help! I appreciate it.
Buffett Inspired Images
(to help you endure the cold)
During the winter, it can get mighty cold in many parts of the world. If you live where A)It's not too cold or B)It's summer right now, consider yourself lucky. Please go outside and soak up some vicarious rays for the rest of us. Listening to Buffett sure helps to warm me up but I thought it would be nice to actually see some island images. Sun, sand, aquamarine oceans and palm trees. Aaahhhhh. I feel warmer already. I've done some research, and the following is a short list of WebCam's that are tropically based.
Boca Cam This camera shows a view of the Intracoastal Waterway in Boca Raton, Florida. Can't you just feel the water slapping against the hull of your sailboat?
Hawaii Online - Panorama A view of the ocean from Aloha Tower on the island of O'ahu. You can point the camera in the direction you want to see and get a view from that direction. Hand me the suntan lotion, Bubba. I feel the heat!
Sunset Beach Netcam Just like it says, a view of Sunset Beach on the island of O'ahu. Feel the sand between your toes! Listen to the ocean wind in the palm trees! The camera is back up and running!! Take a peek. (TIP: Be sure to check out the rest of the Virtually Hawai'i site while you're there. I think you'll have a lot of fun and learn about the islands at the same time. I sure did.)
Bermuda Webcam The camera is provided by the Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR). It shows the view looking out the 3rd floor window of the Reiss/Conklin Laboratory in Bermuda. (Remember that Bermuda is in the Atlantic Time Zone [Eastern +1] so take that into account when trying to view the image.) Oh, the ISLANDS. Wish I were cruising the Caribbean right now.
Windcam This webcam is based on the island of Maui and its theme is windsurfing. There are some GREAT views on this page. Be sure to check out the "Sunsets" and "Rainbows" pages. This one is very worth your time. Oh island in the sun!
Kanaha Kam This camera is located on the deck of Bob's Tiki Suite [Do you set sail on the Leaky Tiki from here?] . The Kanaha Kam is also available in Jumbo Version Raise that margarita glass and put another shrimp on the barbie!
Maui Web Cam Some more GREAT views from Hawai'i. Aloha, broda
The JB Tales have moved to their own page. Jump on over and be sure to update your bookmarks if you only want to view the tales.
Going Nuts Over Buffett
I heard an expression the other day that I've never heard before, "A few sandwiches shy of a picnic". You know, just a little bit whacky in the head. I wondered how that would translate if the expressions were to have a Buffett flavor to them. I posted these to the Buffett Listserv List and got a couple more in return. I'd welcome your expressions too. Send them to grrrizly@oocities.com and I'll include them here for everyone to enjoy.

Buffett Library
Here is some of the reading material that relates to either Jimmy Buffett directly or to the type of lifestyle that Buffett inspires (IMHO).
Tres Navarre mystery series by Rick Riordan
If you're not familiar with the series, it features San Antonio private eye Tres Navarre (a man whose favorite beverage [only slightly in front of a Shiner Bock] is tequila and who is also a Tai Chi master) and a cast of lunatic friends and family -- one of whom is Tres's brother Garrett, wheelchair-bound, reefer-smokin' computer-programming Parrotthead par excellence. The first two books, Big Red Tequila (#1) and Widow's Two-Step (#2) are in print. The third book in the series is due to be released in April 1999.
These are excellent mystery novels. I've read both novels and I always greet the appearance of Garrett with much enjoyment.
All hail the Carmen Miranda. Long may she roam
I got the following email from the Buffett listserve and thought that you all might enjoy it.
Hey Parrotheads,
I need your help. I'm about to launch into novel #4 of the Tres Navarre mystery series, and am in search of the wildest Buffett-related stories I can find.
This particular book will be set mostly in Austin, and will focus on Garrett, who thinks somebody's out to kill him.
Since Garrett is a fanatic Parrothead, I want to do right by him (and the Parrotheads) by working in some true-to-life details about his experiences following Jimmy B. around. If anybody on this here Coconut Telegraph wants to send me some crazy stories about being a Parrothead, I'll be most grateful -- concert experiences, encounters with the Man himself, top ten signs that you might be a Parrothead, etc. etc. Material I use would be mixed around, changed, fictionalized, etc., and of course the names would be changed to protect the, er, innocent, but anybody whose story gets worked into the final draft will certainly get a thank you on the acknowledgements page and a signed copy of the book on me, when it comes out in the spring of 2000.
"Travis McGee" series by John MacDonald
John MacD has passed away but he left us with a wealth of stories set in Florida. Most Buffett fans are aware of this author but if you haven't read anything of his before, you should check it out. The ideal reading location would be in a hammock gently swaying in the breeze with a tall cool beverage of your choice close at hand.
Randy Wayne White
I've just recently discovered Randy White. Again, the location for the books is based around the Florida Keys. The writing style is similar to the "Travis McGee" stories but they stand all on their own. This is not just a cheap copy of John MacDonald. The writing is very good. The main character, Doc Ford, is the the central part of all of the books. Mr. White has written four books so far, Sanibel Flats, The Man Who Invented Florida, The Heat Islands, and his newest Captiva. Each book stands alone but for the best effect, I would recommend starting with Sanibel Flats. That way you'll get to know the characters from their beginnings.
Recently released is the fifth in the Doc Ford series, North of Havana. Check it out! It's a good read.
Herman Wouk
Again, most Buffett fans are aware of Mr. Wouk's book, Don't Stop The Carnival. For those of us who aren't, though, this is a very delightful Carribean based story.
Jimmy Buffett [what's he doing here? ;-) ] A Pirate Looks At Fifty From everything I've heard, it's sort of an autobiography. If I'm able to get my hands on a copy, I'll post my review here.
From the Buffett Listserve:
Hi Everyone,
Just in case you have missed any of the many articles and recent stuff about the new book and CD, I have compiled a long list (To which contributions are welcome) of Recent Reviews, Interviews, Articles, and Exerpts of the book regarding A Pirate Looks At Fifty and Don't Stop The Carnival into a simple
page.
It is Number 8 on the list. Comments, suggestions, and/or contributions are always welcome to JolyMonBPB@AOL.com.
HAPPY READING!
I've never been to the tropics but you can bet that I'm going someday. I'll just have to keep searching for that elusive Island of Margaritaville (It's a state of mind, not a place).
