Kato (Lower) Petali, a medieval village on the plateau between Apollonia and Kastrou. Preserved from overmodernisation by being slightly off the beaten track, it still boasts ancient paths and an aura of pre-industrial calm - at least in the off-season. Much of the island is terraced in the manner seen here, each terrace supported by ancient drywalls and speckled with thimonia, or country houses.
