Of note: Not sure of the reason for Williams parents picking
his middle name, but 'Solon' was one of seven wise men of
Greece, born in Athens in 638BC, wrote new constitution making
property instead of birth the basis of citizenship.

July 1911 was the date of the devastating fire in Au Sable. A
lumber barge took 300 women and children out on Lake Huron.
After the fire, there were 12 houses and 2 schools left.

William's obituary mentions his daughter (Mrs. George Hammond)
preceding him in death. It also mentions he was born in Aylmer
(mispelled in newspaper) and had 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Our
records show that he had 11 siblings total, with at least 3 of
them being brothers. Perhaps this means that 4 of them
preceded him in death, even though he was the oldest of the 12.
With the high degree of infant deaths during Williams years,
this is more than just probable.

Wiliam Solon is listed as age 20 in this census. William must
have immigrated to Michigan shortly after since in 3 years he
will be married there.

William Solon & Eleanor (Potter) Silverthorn (age 59 & 53
respectively) lived at 121 Broad Street, right next door to
their son William and his wife Edythe (McCash) who livd at 127
Broad St. Grace, age 19, was living one block over (217
Prescott Street) with her husband Andrew Tageson and 2 and a
half year old William J.
Only child still at home is George Dewey, age 21. Two
grandsons (Susanna Silverthorn Hammond's children) listed
living with grandparents. This leads us to believe that
Susanna and her husband died prior to 1920.
