Introduction
Here I try to collect the music from different composers. So unlike some other
midi libraries, this one is intended to collect only the best pieces rather
than a complete library. I also try to group the midi files by composers, then
by type (if there are many files for one composer). Enjoy!
Also, disclaimer: (actually this is not very important, but just in case when I am asked ...)
This is a section of a homepage, rather than an official music page. Things
may get subjective, and you see my writing is rather informal (possibly with
typo and such).

Composers
The animated piano bar "
" shows
the difficulty of the pieces written by a composer on average. The more piano
bars the harder the pieces. Ratings:
Grade 5-6
(quite easy)
Grade 7-8 (challenging)
Grade
8+ (demanding)
Grade ?10? (only played by professional pianist)
Grade
??12?? (I doubt if the composer himself could play it ... basically impossible
to play)
- (six pianos rating -- there is only one piece that deserves such rating
-- Godowsky's Etude of Chopin's Op.25
No.1 "Aeolian Harp" Version 2))
Chopin
Chopin is the most famous composer for piano solo. His works includes Etudes,
Waltzes, Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Polonaises, Impromptus, Preludes, Variations and
some other miscellaneous compositions. Here I prepare the best (I think!!! and
don't argue thanks!!) midi files of Chopin for download:
Difficulty ranking (from easiest to hardest; and *very*
subjective - don't argue -)
Prelude: <very easy> 7, 20, 4, 6, 2, 15, 21, 11, 9, 17, 13, 10,
23, 3, 14, 1, 18, 5, 12, 19, 22, 24, 8, 16 <very hard>
Marzuka: <very easy> 5, 9, 43, 4, 47, 11, 41, 18, 6, 44, 45, 49,
14, 31, 16, 8, 12, 39, 14, 42, 22, 46, 24, 19, 34, 15, 20, 50, 25, 36, 3, 2,
1, 27, 10, 48, 40, 29, 7, 37, 30, 23, 28, 17, 13, 21, 26, 32, 33, 38, 51 <medium>

Scherzo: <very hard> 2, 4, 3, 1 <very hard> ;-)
Godowsky
-- now Godowsky has his own page!!
J. S. Bach
J. S. Bach is the Father of Music. His work ranged from some tiny piano
solo pieces to some grand concerti. My favorite pieces are as follows:
Beethoven

Many people like Beethoven's work (me included). His work covered almost all
types of music (Concerto, Piano Solo, Symphony, Duet etc.). Here you can download
some of the great music by Beethoven:
Mozart
Less great than Beethoven, I personally think ;-)! The harmony and melody are
usually not rich enough ... anyway I'll pick some pieces with nice melody ...
Note: There is a concert paraphrase to Mozart "Turkish March" (Sonata
K331 last movement) by Volodos. It is amazing ... !!
Schubert
Another great composer in the Romantic era.
Liszt

A composer with similar style of that of Chopin. Some expressive romantic pieces were written, and the technical
play of Liszt's work was even more demanding that that of Chopin's. A bit off
from the "pure romantic" style.
Personla note: for the Transcendental Etudes, I just played the two that I
think they are the best: "Mazeppa" and "Restlessness". Both
are pretty demanding, fast, exciting, challenging, amazing ... both require
long fingers ;-)
Of course I forgot to mention Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody #2!! This one is one
of my favourites!! You can probably grab its midi from the net very easily --
don't need me! ;-) btw Horowitz played both Mephisto Waltz No.1 and HR #2 back
in the 1970's. The recordings were amazing, with moderate to big transcriptions
to both pieces, making the close-to-impossible pieces straight to the impossible
land! I love Horowitz!!! :-)))))
Miscellaneous
Here are some other cool music that do not belong to anyone listed above ;-)
Try the following too. They are not available here but can be found easily
from the net anyway.
- Rachmininoff: Piano Concerto No.2
- ... more later ;-)

Contemporary Composer -- Simon Mok ;-)

Simon Mok / Mokkie (1983 - ) is my real friend. While Chopin wrote Variations
on "Don Giovanni" at his age of 17, Mokkie now composes various
pieces that are at very high standard (and they are really difficult too, which
deserve the difficulty rating of 4 pianos). I must add that although
he is a "contemporary" composer (in the sense that he is living in
the 20-21 century), his work ranges from Classical style to Romantic and Modern
style. My favorite is his "Valse Polonaise"
(second favorite: "Love Dream"). I don't think
there is a need to say more here. Just go to our Genius Composer's Music
Page and have a look!
P.S. It would be even greater if such a music composer and web programmer is
also a top Bricks player
... :-) Mokkie, I wish you good luck in getting the Super Genius rating in Bricks
I (that's 46201 points or more)!!

Sheet Music Downloads
Note: My intention is to post sheet music that is not
available anywhere else on the web (there's no point to duplicate resources).
If you want a "complete" collection, the Sheet
Music Archive is probably able to give you some help ;-)
If you can't find your pieces here, first go to Sheet Music Archive before
asking me ...
I did some cut and paste on some scores to make them fit in a Microsoft Power Point file with fewer pages. However if you haven't got Power Point installed, you can always get the gif equivalent from me by e-mail!
Scores with a shiny ball "
" are with extremely good quality!!!
53 more pieces are on my Godowsky's Page :-)
