Basically, 1 is bad, 5 is good. (Rating system at bottom.) Have fun and remember, don't run with scissors!

"JEWEL OF THE NILE" (PG) Stars: Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny
DeVito
This is the sequel to "ROMANCING THE STONE" and I'd say it was the better but
there's
more almost cult-like violence in it. You'll see the sex and language as well.
But it's just as funny as the other one and they carry the plot well.
Rating: ***
"JINGLE ALL THE WAY" (PG) Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rita Wilson, Jake
Lloyd, Sinbad
Okay, the concept is fine: it's Christmas Eve and this guy is trying
desperately to find the "it" toy of the year for his little boy. The end is
even sorta cute. But, really, unless you enjoy watching Arnold (not even gonna
fall into that whole spell-his-name-with-an-h routine...lol) assult Santa
Claus, police, a mailman (Sinbad), men dressed in action figure costumes, and
even an angry reindeer (but NOT the guy who's trying to hit on his wife...),
you're not missing anything. There's mild language and cartoonish violence.
Rating: **
"JOAN OF ARC" (NBC special movie) Stars: LeeLee Sobieski
Well, breaking my own rule here...but at least I'll warn you and say I only saw
parts of the first half and then the second half but I thought
this movie was really good. I don't know the story of Joan REAL well but it
seemed like this movie stuck to it pretty well! There are definitely battle
scenes with plenty of blood and of course the martyr scene at the end (which
made me cry by the way!), and possibly some subtle sexual references (which
I'm still trying to grasp, btw...did they or didn't they?? lol). Rating:
***
"JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, Rosario Dawson, and a huge ensemble cast
This is one unique movie. First of all, you know I'm going to mention Seth Green, because I'm a huge fan...anything he's in is gonna be funny, if only while he's on screen. In this movie, he's part of the spoof boy band "Du Jour". This is what the movie starts right off with, and, frankly, it's hilarious. It's a strong start ...and the movie doesn't falter, it just keeps going and going exactly the same way (the movie is a huge parody). This IS one of the best comic-book flicks I've seen yet (although I've never actually seen a Josie comic, or the old show, so I can't compare it to that at all!), and it does definitely have the over-the-top cartoon character feel to it, although the girls do manage to keep their characters semi-real throughout all of it. I do have to say that it was a smart move to keep this movie fairly short in length. It's not one I could watch too many times without getting sick of the gags. There's some light sexual innuendo...light language...and conspiracy theories that are likely to go WAY over the heads of any young'uns. There are some great cameos and smirk-worthy lines. Watch it, seriously. And then get me the soundtrack. Too funny. Rating: ***1/2
"JUST MARRIED" (PG-13; 2003) Stars: Ashton Kutcher, Brittany Murphy, Christian Kane
Wow, Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy are just about the cutest couple ever. This is a very funny movie. About what happens *after* the guy gets the girl or the girl gets the guy or whatever: post wedding ceremony. On the honeymoon. Though granted, this is probably a comical exaggeration. It reminds me of a new take on a classic movie theme: there's a little of the Lucy & Desi style of comedy here. It's a very simple movie, but it's simply entertaining. There's sexual content, language. Rating: ***
"KATE & LEOPOLD" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Meg Ryan, Hugh Jackman, Breckin Meyer
This movie is top-of-the-line romantic comedy. It was so much better than I expected it to be, and both Meg and Hugh are perfect in it. In other words, if you like romantic comedy (well, yes, it is still a chick flick), you will swoon over this one, and if you're a chick who tries not to like chick flicks, you will still like this. Who doesn't want a fairytale every once in awhile? Rating: ****
"KEEPING THE FAITH" (PG-13) Stars: Ben Stiller, Jenna Elfman, Edward Norton
Did you hear the one about the priest and rabbi? This is a very cute movie. It's about two best friends (who happen to have become a priest and a rabbi, ha, ha) who fall in love with the same girl (Jenna Elfman). It wasn't what I expected to see from that little description, myself, but that made it even better. It's really very unexpected. Gotta love that in a movie. I don't even particularly like the actors in this, but I loved the film. There's a lot of sexual content, some language. If you're extremely religious (ask yourself, "am I a stuck-up prude?"), you won't like this, because they do poke a little fun at themselves, and there is a little bit of faulty spiritual beliefs going on here (the priest thinks it's perfectly acceptable to be a homosexual), but I thought they did an excellent job of showing how serving God can be fun. Rating: ***1/2
"THE KID" (PG) Stars: Bruce Willis
Very, very cute family movie. MY family (quite conservative) loved it. We all did. Of course, it's classified as a "fantasy", because the way the "bad man!" character Bruce plays (and plays very well!) gets "set straight" would never, ever happen (his younger self pops up in his future life), but hey, it's fun to watch! Rating: **** (for families, definitely)
"LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Angelina Jolie, Angelina Jolie, Angelina Jolie...oh, sorry, plus there's an delightfully slimey bad guy (guess what, he's an evil lawyer...muhahaha) and a pathetic attempt at a "comic relief" side-kick and eccentric-but-loveable butler type...oh and Ang's real-life dad Jon Voigt plays her dead father (yes, dead)
Well, it's not the best action flick ever (although the bungee-rope fight scene was pretty cool...and not coincidentally the most original segment in the film, which seems to borrow liberally from MI2 and James Bond flicks). It starts out absolutely atrocious (I was squirming and wondering WHAT I had gotten myself into) and it's hard to bounce back from that. There isn't even a glimmer of intelligent dialogue, so it's fortunate that Lara Croft is a fairly Cryptic Gal. Lara Croft, by the way, has so little character it's ridiculous. I assume that if you're familiar with the video game, you know a little more about who, what, why, etc. I'm not sure if they were trying to get the viewer to go buy the game to figure these little things out or if they just forgot to bother, but oh well. Speaking of video games, that IS the main strain of the movie, and it makes it ridiculously surreal. It turns out that the reason you don't hear much about the story of the movie is because there ISN'T one. I hate to be the Nasty Critic type, but it does seem that they simply threw a bunch of trite action segments together and hoped it made enough sense to keep the audience. The bottom line is, there's not a laugh to be had, there's no romance (nor do you wind up caring if there's even a "potential romance" storyline), and the only good reason to see the movie is if you like Angelina Jolie (her accent is quite cute, I admit) and gun fights (my reasons, obviously) or if you're dying for a look at the side of Angelina's enhanced (for this movie, I mean) breast. Rating: **
"LARGER THAN LIFE" (PG) Stars: Bill Murray
OH NO ANOTHER ELEPHANT FLICK! lol This one is hilarious. And you know what
else, it's about a guy who has to transport an elephant across country! Sound
familiar? (Check out "Operation Dumbo Drop") This time he's not military, he's
just the unhappy fellow on the
other end of an...interesting but LARGE inheiritance! Rating: ***
"LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN" (PG-13; 2003) Stars: Sean Connery, Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng
This movie was based on a graphic novel by Alan Moore with fascinating concept. I can't say I was a big fan of the 'book. It had a lot of potential, but (at least in volume 1) it went unrealized. The movie made all of these problems worse. Peta Wilson as Mina and Stuart Townsend as Dorian Gray were the only redeeming features, in my opinion. The plot was bad, the pacing was bad, and the CGI was bad also. Too bad that, with this many interesting characters, they couldn't make up a compelling story. Rating: **
"LEFT BEHIND" (PG-13;2000) Stars: Kirk Cameron, Chelsea Noble, Brad Johnson,
Gordan Currie
This is a Christian studio film, and, yes, it shows. But not painfully so. The
acting isn't bad; the low point is Chelsea Noble's role (they changed the part
and didn't give her much to work with) and the stand-out performance comes from
the virtually unknown Gordan Currie, who plays the Antichrist, Nicholae
Carpathia. The special effects aren't bad, either, they just aren't extremely
exciting. Still, the movie was fairly entertaining. It's based on the New York
Times bestseller Left Behind but, yes, they did change quite a few
things. Maybe not as many as we're used to, however! I don't think it deserved
the rating, but I guess it's just to be safe. There is violence, and they show
a guy after he's shot in the head, and some stuff that might scare little kids.
Rating: ***
"LEGALLY BLONDE" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Reese Witherspoon, Luke Perry, Selma Blair
Well, this isn't a bad movie, but it was a little sillier than I expected. I think the point is "don't judge somebody by their outward appearance alone", and haven't we all heard that enough already? Oh well. The only thing I liked about it was that Selma Blair's character wasn't quite as predictable as she could have been. See it if you need a good slumber party movie. There's some sexual implications. Rating: ***
"LES MISERABLES" (PG-13) Stars: Liam Neeson, Claire Danes, Uma Thurman
Wow. Good movie. Based on what I'm sure is an even better book (I plan on reading it). Hopefully, you know a little bit about the Victor Hugo classic. It's all about redemption. Basically, the entire story is asking you to evaluate your beliefs on the question "Can people truly change their nature?" Of course, if you're a Christian, you know the answer to that, but perhaps you don't realize what an important fundamental belief this is. The movie does an excellent job of showing you just that. There's sexual content and violence. Rating: ****
"LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT" (PG-13; 2002) Stars: Angelina Jolie, Edward Burns, Christian Kane
Love Angelina Jolie (and, wow, can she be anybody or what?!). And Christian Kane has one of the sexiest voices ev-ah. Ed Burns reminds me of Michael Vartan, and if Vartan doesn't impress me, Burns impresses me even less (it definitely takes a better man to match Jolie). This movie wonders and wanders, and I'm not completely sure it had an actual point. But it's undeniably fun to watch Angie Jolie frollick on-screen, no matter what is going on along with her. Rating: **1/2
"THE LITTLE MERMAID" (G) Stars: the voices of a bunch of people who ehh aren't
that interesting anyways...if you're really fanatical about having the names on
here let me know!
Okay, okay, I know it's animated! It's my best friend's favorite movie, so of
course I had to put it on here!! I guess you know what it's about. If you
don't, imagine! I'm not even going to rate this one! LOL
"LITTLE WOMEN" (PG) Stars: Christian Bale, Susan Sarandon
My favorite version of "Little Women" (if you haven't read the book, read it!
LOL). Christian Bale is Laurie/Teddy, and he's cute right up until he grows the
moustache. By the way, I always thought he and Jo shoulda gotten together and I
always will! lol Rating:
***
"LOOK WHO'S TALKING" and sequel (PG-13) Stars: John Travolta, Kirstie Alley
I love both these actors, and this is a cute movie, but check out what they
show with the credits! lol There's an unmarried mother situation, sexual
references, some language, or as Hollie says, "it's got cussing..somebody
having an affair..but on the UPSIDE..it's JOHN TRAVOLTA!!!!!!" =) What I love
about it is how it shows the baby (the so commonly dismissed "fetus")
developing (and for the movie, "talking") in the womb. It also advocates the
belief that love is not just a "feeling that comes on you and you can't help
it"...and then, it IS John Travolta. LOL It's about a kid who has a pretty
talkative voice in his head! Then there's "LOOK WHO'S TALKING TOO" which is
cute as well but the kid sees talking toilets! lol And then "LOOK WHO'S TALKING
NOW" is for if you REALLY love John Travolta....and dogs, talking dogs, cause
that's what this one is mostly about. But it's pretty cute as well. Rating: ***
1/2 (I just couldn't help it...and the originial is the best, okay!)
"THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING" (PG-13; 2002) Stars:
Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Liv Tyler, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom
Debated whether to put this under "L" or "F", but this movie really isn't complete unto itself. Wow, that's scary -this movie alone is *3 hours* (3 1/2 with the extra scenes added) and I'm sure the other 2 will be about the same length. If there was any doubt that these movies are for the Tolkien fans, I think that fact alone clears it up. I've never gotten very far into the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I was hoping this movie would inspire me, but it didn't. The only thing I got out of this movie was that it's an epic, and it sees itself exactly that way. The CGI, etc, is all great, but I got the feeling they were constantly expectant, as if just waiting for the audience to notice how spectacular it is. The movie wasn't confusing, exactly (my mind wandered quite a bit, but I won't blame that all on the movie), but I did get the feeling that in the books there would be a lot more to what was going on. The PG-13 is for 'epic battle scenes' (see, there's that epic word again!) and some scary images (for instance, the demon-like costumes), and it's deserved. Rating: ***
"LOVE'S LABOURS LOST" (PG) Stars: Kenneth Branaugh, Alicia Silverstone (and she sings! lol)
I wanted to see this movie as soon as I heard about it, simply because you just don't see "old-style musicals" coming out anymore. I had the hardest time finding it, because of that, as well. Apparently, it only attracts a certain kind of audience. It was kind of fun, but a little boring. There was a lot of subtle jokes, a lot of satire (they managed to make fun of the old musicals a little even while capturing the spirit of them very well), and although the dialogue was in Shakespeare-talk, the songs were Gershwin (not performed as well as the originals, but what else could you expect?) and all in all, the whole thing had a definite modern, sophisticated feel, while still being a little corny. I don't even like the old musicals, myself, but if you're a big fan, you just might get a kick out of this. Kenneth Branaugh is a very talented man. Rating: **
"THE LOVE LETTER" (PG-13) Stars: Tom Selleck, Kate Capshaw, Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Everett Scott
Someone finds a passionate love letter and everyone in a small town starts looking around for their soulmates. It's a potentially cute premise, and this movie definitely has it's cute parts. I don't like Tom Selleck much, especially as a romantic lead, but then this movie really wasn't all that much about him. I watched it once, enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll be watching it again. Now please note, Ellen DeGeneres is in it, and I can't think of a single project she has been involved in that didn't have some kind of politically correct gay-rights message to it, and this is no exception. I won't go into the details, but let me use a sound effect (imagine): gag!! So sorry, not feeling the need for subtlety right now. Rating: **1/2
"LOVE STORY" (PG) Stars: um...don't remember. You don't really need to know,
though, cause they're not around any more, right? Right. lol
I decided to watch this movie simply because I kept hearing so much about it.
"THE love story" and all that. I watched it once and that's all I recommend for
you. Once and never again, or it will give you a messy outlook on love. It was
pointless and depressing throughout (the haunting theme music -which was played constantly- didn't allow any happiness even during the "happy" parts) and will most likely leave you completely unsatisfied. Of course, if you're just looking for a cry, this movie might work for you. (I know, it's old, so it probably shouldn't even be on here..sorry!) Rating: *
"MAID IN MANHATTAN" (PG-13; 2003) Stars: Jennifer Lopez, Ralph Fiennes
I didn't realize until I started watching it that she had a kid in this movie. I would have watched it anyway, because I like J.Lo movies, but had I known, I could have guessed pretty much every plot point in this movie before viewing and been right on the mark. So, yes, everything here has been done before. And Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes have a weird dynamic (I'm trying to avoid using the word "chemistry"), although he played an excellent politician, albeit a nice one (and Republican, which was one *welcome* and unexpected turn). Everything's predictable, right down to the sexual implications and light dusting of language. Still, at least in a J.Lo movie you can count on the female role not being some ridiculous girl who doesn't know how to handle herself much less a relationship. Yey for J.Lo. Rating: *** I suppose.
"MAD LOVE" (PG-13) Stars: Drew Barrymore, Chris O'Donnell
Okay, this wasn't quite what I was expecting, but the actors do are great and the characters are very interesting. I don't want to give anything away, but I will admit the end was kinda sad (not hopeless sad but just...sad..lol). Movie wasn't predictable, and I'm not QUITE sure what they were trying to say (I was a little upset with how the guy Chris was playing just up and left his responsibilities for a girl) but it was very interesting. Rating: ***
"THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER" and sequel (PG) Stars: ehh..nobody too special lol
A couple of old favorites. If you like horses, check out these movies, got it! I like the sequel, "RETURN TO SNOWY RIVER" better but you have to watch them in order! There's romance and excitement. Some violence and mild language. Rating: ***
"THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK" (PG-13; 1998) Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy Irons
Okay, I admit it, I did read the book first. And this movie DEFINITELY doesn't follow the book in a lot of ways. But it's cool. There is a lot of sex, some language, battle scenes, and a partial brief nudity scene and some implied nudity in the bedroom scenes. I don't want to give away the plot on this one, but it's about a king so guess what era this one's in! Rating: ****
"THE MAN IN THE MOON" (PG-13, 1991) Stars: Sam Waterston, Tess Harper [of Christy fame], Jason London, Emily Warfield, Reese Witherspoon
Pretty much a coming-of-age flick, which as you know, I never recommend. It is interesting, however, that this was Reese Witherspoon's first role. She did a good job, played a very believable character. In fact, there was some good acting in this movie, but it was full of senseless tragedy. Sam Waterston (of Law & Order fame) gave a stand-out performance as the Father. I really felt his role. Brief and partial nudity (actually, Reese shows a lot of skin for how young she was) Rating: **1/2
"THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO LITTLE" (PG; 1997) Stars: Bill Murray, Peter Gallagher
Watching a movie with the family is completely different than watching a movie alone or with a friend. My family found this one fairly funny, although there were a few objectionable scenes. The idea of a man (Bill Murray is perfect for the role, of course) being mistaken for a spy is ripe for gags, and this movie does pretty well with the concept. If you like Bill Murray, you'll like it. There is some language, innuendo, and "comic violence". Rating: **1/2
"THE MASK OF ZORRO" (PG-13) Stars: Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta- Jones
I wanted to see this movie because I used to love Zorro (shut up, okay lol)! The storyline is basically like the original Zorro movie ("The Mark of Zorro") except of course, it's not the original Zorro, it's about the guy the "old Zorro" trains to be his replacement. If that makes any sense at all! This movie has some funny parts, and some quite serious parts, but they just don't seem to mesh well together. It drags on and on...and on and on....there is quite a bit of rather graphic cartoon-like (or slapstick, whatever term you prefer) violence. The best parts are the ones with the "new" Zorro and the "old" Zorro's daughter, which are few and far between. Maybe it's more a guy's movie, I dunno...I basically think they should have either stuck with silly or gone more serious. The plot is fairly well written, it just gets boring! Antonio Banderas is pretty darn cute in it, however (well, he gets progressively cuter as it goes on). The end is rather predictable, but in any case, if you want to, see it, and once will most likely be enough. Rating: *** (oh yah..there's some partial nudity..lol)
"MEET JOE BLACK" (PG-13) Stars: Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins
Okay, alls I really have to say is that the only good reason to watch this movie is because Brad is SOOOOO fine in it. Trust me, I know what I'm talkin' about here. lol THREE HOURS of him playing such a babe. I mean, okay, so he's Death in human form, but STILL! lol Anyhow, it's a really weird movie and it does drag a bit...okay, a lot; only a few movies can get away with 3 hours okay, but still, it's pretty interesting. Rating: ** 1/2
"MEET THE PARENTS" (PG-13) Stars: Ben Stiller, Robert de Niro
Well, this packs a lot of painful laughs, especially for somebody who's gone through the "meet the potential parents-in-law" experience and had it this exruciating (well, this is probably magnified a hundred times or so..that's part of the appeal..lol), but for me it was just a reminder of our times (the extremely strained relationships, lack of trust, etc etc). Anyways, it was pretty funny. There's sexual content, language. Rating: ***
"MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE" (PG-13) Stars: Kevin Costner, Robin Wright
Please, spare us from movies with pointless tragedy! There was NOTHING redeeming about this movie at all. The only thing I can say is that you're surprised, and not for the good, either. Rating: **
"A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM" (PG-13, 1999) Stars: Rupert Everett, Calista Flockhart, Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, Stanley Tucci, Christian Bale, Sophie Marceau
Way weird movie. Yes it's Shakespeare (and yes they use old English, and handle it fairly well at that) but they certainly took a few liberties -apparently having the word "fairy" in the story gives them license to add extra Hollywood weirdness- and they also added some skin! Brief and implied nudity. The last 30 minutes were the best-almost worth watcihng the whole thing for. Rating: **
"THE MIGHTY DUCKS" and sequels (PG) Stars: Emilio Estevez, Joshua Jackson (young, needs a hair cut..lol)
Now THIS is a hockey movie. I think it's pretty cute though. There's bad language and other inappropriate remarks. The first 2, by the way, are the best. In D3 you barely catch a glimpse of Emilio and it's kind of a worn-out theme by that time anyway. Rating: ***
"MIGHTY JOE YOUNG" (PG; 1998) Stars: Bill Paxton, Charlize Theron
It's a gorilla movie!! lol A gorilla with a deep friendship with a lovely human woman. It's a cute story but there is a whole lot of violence in this movie. I wouldn't say it's appropriate for kids. Rating: **1/2
"MINORITY REPORT" (PG-13; 2002) Stars: Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell
This movie is predictable and a little freaky, decent quality sci-fi but nothing original. The characters didn't grab me and most importantly, I was *shocked* to realize it was rated PG-13. This movie deserved an R rating. According to the MPAA it is "Rated PG-13 for violence, brief language, some sexuality and drug content." Obviously having Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg backing the film means you can get whatever rating you want. Let's just say I didn't like this movie. I didn't hate it, I just disliked it. Rating: **
"MISS CONGENIALITY" (PG-13) Stars: Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt
Sure, it's cute and funny, but it's also fluff. And Sandra Bullock is a beautiful woman no matter what you put her in, and I'm not really a Benjamin Bratt fan, either...but those are all just things to say about this movie because I don't know what to say about it. I watched the whole thing and was fairly well entertained but at the end I couldn't help wondering what the big deal was. I finally decided it was the presence of a way-too-serious Michael Caine as her "beauty coach" that annoyed me. I don't like him, and he was all wrong for the part. But anyway, it's cute, watch it if you're a Sandra fan or a Ben fan or if you're just in the mood for some light entertainment. It's a chick flick, but not overly so...there's all that FBI and physical humor stuff, after all! lol There's also language and some innuendo. Rating: ***
"THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES" (PG-13) Stars: Barbra Streisand, Jeff Bridges, and Pierce Brosnan, Lauren Bacall
This is a GREAT romance movie. Chick flick? Probably. Older chick flick, yes, but I still enjoyed it. I don't want to give away any secrets, but it's about these two people who decide to try a marriage without sex. Only....you guessed it, they fall in love. lol I don't think it really deserves the rating. There's one real bad word in there, a couple implied sex scenes. Barbra is great in it...Jeff Bridges plays a dork...and what can I say about the great Lauren Bacall? lol Rating: ****1/2 (In any case, it's worth watching to see Pierce Brosnan, the few times he is actually in there..lol)
"MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE" (PG-13) Stars: Tom Cruise (duh!)
Um...no. That's all I have to say. Don't bother, it's amazingly boring, retarded..you name it, that's what it is. Not even a lot of action to make up for it. As a matter of fact, there's more plot than action, even if it isn't a very good one. Very predictable and worn out. Tom doesn't even look that good in it, and there isn't much romance. Violence, language. Rating: *
"MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2" (PG-13; 2000) Stars: Tom Cruise, Thandie Newton, Dougray Scott
Okay, the first one was so bad I wasn't even going to bother to see this one, but I'm glad I did. This one was MUCH better than the first one. The special effects and great soundtrack alone were worth it. This movie is an excellent example of dynamic directing (John Woo). And the plot didn't even suffer in consquence; yes, there actually IS one. Of course, I'm into action, and it was quite entertaining. There were some really good parts, although it did drag a bit in between. Dougray Scott (of Ever After fame, believe it or not!) was a great bad, BAD guy! Thandie Newton's character managed to maintain her "girl power" without detracting from Tom Cruise's role -or amazing stunt scenes (despite certain people believing that a strong female role must be involved in the physical action to maintain credibility). Worth seeing if you're interested in action or unusual directing. Still, what IS up with all the masks? That was a little confusing. I don't remember all that from the original series..but then, I was never much of a fan. There are sexual implications and some fairly harsh [slow-mo] violence that even made MY heart pound a little. Rating: ***1/2
"MONSTERS INC" (PG; 2001)
It's a cute kids movie, there's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't have the mass-appeal that some other 3D classics (Toy Story 2, Shrek, The Emperor's New Groove) do. Plus, seeing as a child is the central protagonist in the movie, it's just not my kind of story. Rating: ***
"MOONSTRUCK" (PG) Stars: Cher, Nicholas Cage
Both of these actors are kind of "different", and this is a rather "different" movie. It won lots of awards, though, and it was cute in the way that foreign-feeling movies that can take Dean Martin's "That's Amore" (love that song) seriously are. It portrayed the cute Italian family we all love very well, and it was very well acted, despite the fact that the watchers most likely will not relate to the characters. There are a lot of sexual references, the plot is based on two affairs (both cheating affairs), and there's an interesting bedroom scene. Rating: ***
"MOULIN ROUGE" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor
Wow. This is a great movie. So many people have asked me about this movie when they hear I've seen it! Just go see it, people! I adore things that are unique like this (same director as "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet", okay..it IS wild!) and everyone can use something a little different at least once in awhile. This is fun different and you should see it. I loved it just as much the second time around. Rating: *****
"MOUSEHUNT" (PG) Stars: hm...a mouse..and a couple guys..lol
Okay, this is one of those violent-to-be-stupid-to-be- funny movies. At least I THINK that was their aim. I personally don't like those movies but they seem to be pretty big nowadays. So, this movie was really stupid but somebody must like it! lol Rating: *
"MR. MAGOO" (PG) Stars: Leslie Nielson, Jennifer Garner
Well, it's based on a cartoon for heaven's sake. I never knew Leslie Nielson could be so stupid! The kids might like it but I haven't felt like watching it more than once, but I'm glad I was forced into it because the second time was after Jennifer Garner became big stuff. She, unfortunately, plays a completely useless character, but it's always fun to see the "begger's role"s. Rating: **
"MRS. WINTERBOURNE" (PG-13, 1996) Stars: Brendan Fraser, Ricki Lake, Shirley Maclaine
Uh oh, Brendan Fraser! You either ran screaming or were instantly gung-ho to see this movie, right? (Probably the former if you're at MY page!) Well, believe it or not, this movie is barely retarded at all! Brendan plays a dual role and is actually quite good in it. It's a story about mistaken identity, and why people call it a "modern Cinderella story" I do NOT know, but hey whatever floats their boats. I liked this movie alot. There's a live-in situation, implied sex, and some language. Rating: ***
"MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING" (PG-13) Stars: Denzel Washington, Emma Thompson
I personally think this is a cute story, and there's a lot of good actors in it. It does have the Shakespeare flair, although they don't use the Elizabethan English. There are a few interesting musical scenes, and the rating is for some nudity. You might want to check out the edited version, or else you'll get an eyefull. It would be so easy to leave the nudity out, too! Anyway, it's pretty cute, but you'll have to like a certain kind of movies to enjoy it, I think! Rating: ***
"MULAN" (G; 1998) Stars: the voices of Eddie Murphy and a bunch of other people....
This is MY favorite animated (well, I like "POCAHONTAS" too..lol) movie. It's awesome, if you're a kid, you HAVE to see it, got that? Okay. Oh by the way..it's about this girl who saves China! lol Oh don't let anybody tell you it's promoting feminism or cross-dressing either because those people are just looking for an excuse to criticize a good movie. 'Kay!
"THE MUMMY" (PG-13; 1999) Stars: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah
This movie freaked me out. I'm honestly not sure why unless it was the excellent special effects mixed with the uncomfortableness of the quasi rip-off of the Bible. Plus, um, those bugs? And the whole living mummy thing? Ew. Great characters, this deserved the blockbuster. Rating: ***
"MUPPETS FROM SPACE" (you know I'm not sure..G or PG) Stars: Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and mostly Gonzo!
Okay, I like the muppets, they crack me up, but this is NOT one of their better movies! It's like they wanted to make a movie with a bunch of famous cameos (including a couple Dawson's Creek stars if you're interested) and throw in the muppets. It's about Gonzo, who has always been refered to as a "Whatever" while Kermit is a frog and Piggy is a well, pig...and so on. He's decided he's from outer space! There's some weird "space-y" scenes and not much of the traditional wacky and hysterical muppet humor (that is, if you like the muppets) and well, it has a lot to do with the world's obsession with aliens. Rating: **1/2
"MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND" (G) Stars: Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy...LOL
Okay, so i like the muppets, so sue me! This is one my favorite Muppet movies...this and "THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER" (just for your information lol). If you still think the Muppets make kiddie movies, think again! LOL
"THE MUSKETEER" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Justin Chambers, Tim Roth, Mena Suvari, Catherine Deneuve
Often ostentatious in the stunt sequences, sometimes cheesy with overdone lines, yet overall this movie doesn't linger long enough to be truly dislikeable. Perhaps the stunts are justifiable, since they are the only new twist in the plot. Justin Chambers as D'Artagnon is just interesting enough to carry the weight of the story. In the end, this is far from the worst version of "The Three Musketeers" I've seen (if you don't believe me, try the Gene Kelly vehicle and shudder). There's very light sexual content and violence (it's quite clean, actually). Rating: **
"MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING" (PG-13) Stars: Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz
This is a great movie and I really like Julia Roberts in it. It's about two women fighting over one man, basically. You'll especially like it, I'm sure, if you're rooting for Cameron Diaz in it. I wasn't and it actually made me cry the first time (how embarressing)! There is language (some bad stuff too), sexual implications, and some association with a homosexual. Rating: ****
"MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING" (PG; 2002) Staring: John Corbett
Okay, I didn't actually want to see this movie, but I went anyway, and it is very funny. I was afraid it was going to get all "me and my rotten childhood with an evil family", but it didn't. Fun movie for when you just want something light and easy. Language, implications of sex. My family watches it. Rating: ****
"MY DOG SKIP" (PG) Stars: well...the dog from "Frasier", Moose! lol
Run for your lives, it's another INSPIRING movie! Okay, so you can sense my dirision. It's nice to know that these kind of movies CAN be made, but I prefer to steer clear of them. This movie is promoted as a family film, and there are some cute parts (I mean, hello, it's mostly about a dog) but it's also very much a DRAMA. Not a comedy. Mostly, it's a coming-of-age flick, I guess. Don't bother with it. Rating: **
"MY STEPMOTHER IS AN ALIEN" (PG-13; 1988) Stars: Dan Aykroyd, Kim Basinger,
Jon Lovitz, Alyson Hannigan
I watched this for Alyson Hannigan and the Seth Green cameo (both as kids and they're hilarious), but it turns out it's my favorite Kim Basinger movie. That's not saying much, because I don't particularly like Kim Basinger, but she was perfect in this role. Yes, as the alien. This is a campy movie-- very funny, the kitsch is just right. Too bad it has all the sex jokes because it'd be a fun family movie. Rating: *** (certain audience)
"THE NATURAL" (?) Stars: Robert Redford
Okay I don't particularly like Rob Redford (although, yep, he and Brad Pitt do have a certain resemblance-- Brad's cuter! lol) and this was NOT a real captivating movie. Kinda confusing as a matter of fact. It was supposed to be sorta mysterious I think, but it came off like a dream you'd have when you were in a mind-freeze. Okay so I'm not recommending it. Besides, it's a baseball movie. Make up your own mind on that one. Rating: *
"THE NEW GUY" (PG-13; 2002) Stars: DJ Qualls, Eliza Dushku, Zooey Deschanel
Mostly kind of creepy and gross. A few funny parts, but this movie is quite obviously meant for young men who take joy in being revolting. I watched it for Eliza Dushku, but her part was actually negligible. Rating: *
"NEWSIES" (PG) Stars: Christian Bale and a bunch of other cute guys
This is my other favorite musical! The plot is unimportant...but it is kind of explained with the music, okay. New York newsies (love the accent) go on strike against the powerful Paper Lord dude! Lots of great songs (and dancing) and a little romance. Rating: ***
"NEVER BEEN KISSED" (PG-13; 1999) Stars: Drew Barrymore, Michael Vartan, David Arquette
It's kinda sweet...there's some slapstick and stupid stuff, though. Sex-related humor. I like it the most because it has a great message for all those "High School Life" movies that were being shelled out at the same time this came out: there IS life after high school! Drew's character (a straight-laced, nervous girl who didn't learn her own lesson until she had to go BACK to high school, undercover, reporter-style) has a whole speech about the shallowness of living like High School is the only world towards the end of the movie. Rating: ***
"NOTTING HILL" (PG-13; 1999) Stars: Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts
This is just like the sweetest movie, really. I've seen it twice and it's great...if only they could leave out all the bad stuff! I don't really like Hugh Grant that much but he and Julia are cute and funny together. This is just one of those feel-good stories. There's the ups- and-downs romance, some good music, GREAT characters (all of them), and of course star power! And then I love the way it ends; I hate movies that leave you hanging, okay! There is some sex, partial and implied nudity, and although the language isn't constant, there's some quite strong stuff in there and quite often. Watch out for scenes with "Spike", the roommate. Oh and if you've been wondering, "Notting Hill" is in London! What a surprise, huh! Rating: **** (the PG-13 rating was definitely deserved; use extreme caution)
"NOT QUITE HUMAN" and sequels (PG) Stars: Alan Thicke, Jay Underwood
Okay, this is about an android that also starts "feeling" human emotions..only he's supposed to, he's an experiment. The thing is, he looks human too, so he has to convince people that he IS a regular human, which is hard a first because he's pretty niave. There's 3 of these movies, and as far as I'm concerned the first one is the best, although the others are still good and they didn't lose their cast. Basically clean. Rating: ***
"OCEAN'S ELEVEN" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle
The first time I saw this movie, I resented the use of Julia Roberts. The thing is, once you see the cast of this movie, the plot is almost irrelevant. This all comes of emphasizing the wrong things in advertising. I wrote here that I have ended up taking back my opinion of unusual movies when I see them for a second time, and that's what I'll have to do, because there's nothing wrong with this movie. I'd call it a classic, it just glows, and it has great characters. It just doesn't have enough to make it an all-time favorite. It isn't one of my favorite George Clooney characters, but George and Brad are great together, there wasn't too much Matt, and there was almost nil of Julia Roberts. Like I said, the first time, I was almost sure it was gonna turn out "Tess" was involved in the scheme the whole time, which would have made up for the ridiculous use of Julia, as well as being a great twist and a fun ending, but I'm sure that would have veered completely off the old version (which I haven't seen), and perhaps they were trying to cater to that group at least a little (I saw it with a lot of oldER people while in the theatre). This is a straight-out "intelligent thief" movie, and in that it is flawless. The end is a little odd to me because it's almost bittersweet (which is why I didn't like it when I saw it, all hyped on ads, in the theater). I'm guessing that has something to do with the fact that Steven Soderberg directed it. There's a little bit of sexual innuendo, and language, and, well, crime. Actually, it's almost worth watching just for this one part with Brad trying to teach several Hollywood guest stars how to play cards...lol Rating: ***
"THE OMEGA CODE" (PG-13) Stars: Michael York
This is the TBN (Christian) movie that went mainstream. It's about the tribulation, basically. There is no mention made of the rapture and although the evilness of the devil is portrayed very well, the goodness of God is barely mentioned. There is violence and the movie is quite intense. I hate to say it, but I don't recommend it. Not for kids in any case; it even gave me the creeps. Rating: **
"ONLY YOU" (PG) Stars: Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr oh and Billy Zane is in there somewhere I'm not telling where...lol
I really love this movie! It's about a girl who believes in magic and destiny maybe too much....and basically she goes chasing all over Italy looking for the man she believes she is destined to marry. There are lots of surprises, those lovely cases of mistaken identities, and humor in this movie. It's a great romantic chick flick! Nothing very horrible in it, sex or violence or language wise...there is one scene with a Ouji board! Rating: ****
"OPERATION DUMBO DROP" (PG) Stars: Ray Liotta, Danny Glover
Now for an elephant movie! This is an action-adventure movie taking place during the Vietnam War. A group of Green Berets have to transport an elephant across country in a week. Sexual references, a lot of bad language; humor, action, excitement. Rating: ****
"THE OTHERS" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Nicole Kidman
Deliciously creepy. If you like that sort of thing. It's natural to compare this to The Sixth Sense (both ghost stories, "the dead among the living" stories), and in that respect, I like this one better, but only because the children are adorable. When did child actors get so good? It's unbelieveable. Learning about XP (a disease causing hyper sensitivity to light) was interesting, as well. Mostly, I saw this because Nicole was in it, but it's not how you're used to seeing her, so if this kind of suspense isn't your thing, don't bother just for her. Rating: **1/2
"THE OTHER SISTER" (PG-13; 1999) Stars: Diane Keaton, Juliette Lewis, Giovanni Ribisi
Well, I only saw it once and never had a real desire to see it again, but it was pretty sweet all the same. It's called "A love story for the romantically challenged" because it's about 2 mentally challenged young people who fall in love. There are thematic elements relating to their problems, of course, and the dialogue can be halting and painful to listen to. There's some crude sex-related humor. Rating: ***
"THE OUT-OF-TOWNERS" (PG-13; 1999) Stars: Goldie Hawn, Steve Martin
If you're a fan of Hawn/Martin movies, you'll like this movie, because it's their typical comedic fare. It's about a 25-year married couple that basically finds themselves with an empty-nest and lost in New York City to boot. There are some funny parts, some gross parts, some slap-stick, and even a couple sweet parts. There is a rather more-than-implicated sex scene, and some drug use (in prison...). Rating: **
"OVERBOARD" (PG) Stars: Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell
This movie has more of the sex and language in it, but it is cute. It's about a rich snob who gets amnesia and is taken in by a rather crude man who makes her believe she is his wife (she's already married to a jerk) and the mother of his children. I love the end of this one too. (As in "Seems Like Old Times") Rating: ***
"THE PALLBEARER" (PG-13) Stars: David Schwimmer, Gwenyth Paltrow
See this movie if you're a big fan of Gwenyth or Schwimmer (are there big fans of David Schwimmer? I mean, he's great in Friends and all but really...never mind!). There are some funny parts, but it's the kind of movie you don't really know why anybody would waste a couple hours watching once it's over. Rating: **
"THE PARENT TRAP" (PG; 1998) Stars: Lindsay Lohan, Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson
If you liked the original "THE PARENT TRAP" (with Haley Mills) it might take a few moments to really get into this movie. But it's really cute; in fact, I personally might like it better than the original. The twin sisters (played by the same girl) are younger in this movie, but they are still the victims of a divorce and neither of them ever knew they had a twin sister! A great family movie, nothing bad in it unless you count the butler in a speedo (not a happy sight lol)! As an added bonus, check out the scenes in grand ole London! Rating: **** (family movie)
"PATCH ADAMS" (PG-13) Stars: Robin Williams, Monica Potter
Yes, it's a good movie, but it's also not my type! Of course, a movie about this kind of thing (a doctor going against the medical establishment) is kind of special to me (being around a doctor a lot), so that makes it a little easier to appreciate. The rating is for all the thematic elements, some crude humor, and implications during the one sad part (might as well tell you now!). Rating: ***
"PEARL HARBOR" (PG-13; 2001) Stars: Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, Josh Hartnett, Alec Baldwin, Jennifer Garner, James King, Jon Voigt, Cuba Gooding Jr.
Well, for a movie that's supposed to be about heroism and terror, this movie was far from emotionally wringing. The bombing scenes didn't keep my attention like they should have, and I didn't get that patriotic feeling at all. But, that said, and, okay, maybe it's not the most historically accurate, and they were REALLY nice to the Japanese, and Ben Affleck's character got almost zilch recognition for fighting for what was right...and just so you know, I think it was WAY too soon after (you'll understand if you watch it), I would still probably choose this over the other Freakin-Long-Movie, Titanic as far as substance goes. I hesitate to say that, though, because I did think this flick stole from a lot of things...there were definite influences from Armageddon and Titanic itself in there, that didn't go over nearly as well as the original scenes did. Oh, and another thing, the Cuba Gooding Jr. story? How did that fit at ALL? Josh Hartnett got a lot of notice for being "so cute" in this movie, and I guess he has his moments, but he just doesn't do it for me. Kate Beckinsale looked SO different in it! Good though..they really knew how to be glamourous back then, you know? And they completely captured the 1940s look with her. Although, what WERE those accents, anyway? I could never figure it out, British, southern, what? I was surprised I couldn't guess how it was gonna end (and, really, think about what kind of problems those people are gonna have when they have to start explaining...ahem). There's violence, sexual implications, pregnancy, and language. Rating: ***1/2
"THE PHANTOM MENACE -Star Wars: Episode One" (PG; 1999) Stars: Liam Neeson, Jake Lloyd, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman
Yes, at last, I'm putting this up. Not because I didn't see it until now, but because this is one of my least favorite movies. It bored me the first time, and every time following just made me dislike it...more, and more, and more. The acting may not be the worst ever, but the screenplay is awful. (BTW, Yes, Jar Jar is incredibly annoying.) All in all, this is a clear case of getting too caught up in the special effects. The original Star Wars movies did a much better job of giving you characters to make it all worth your while. However, my little brothers like it. Rating: **
"PICTURE PERFECT" (PG-13) Stars: Jennifer Aniston
Very cute movie, I love it. It's a chick flick, yes, one of those affairs that was pretend. Gotta love those kinda movies. THe characters are surprisingly unique, as well as the relationship the character Aniston plays has with her mother. There's sex and language. Rating: ****
"PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL" (PG-13; 2003) Stars: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Jack Davenport
Of course this movie is great. Everybody says so, and everybody is--for once--correct. It's an epic, yet *fun* film. The characters are all interesting and the situations are entertaining. The music, the filming, everything is good. I enjoy it. Rating: ****
"PLEASANTVILLE" (PG-13; 1998) Stars: Reese Witherspoon, Tobey Maguire, Jeff Daniels, Joan Allen, William H. Macy, Don Knotts
Okay, this movie certainly sounds...different, when you hear about it, doesn't it? Two modern American teens get sucked into a black-and-white 50's sitcom (land of perpetual happy-faces), where they proceed to breath life (and technicolor) into the characters they are now involved with. Many of these characters are far from accepting of change, and there are some spectacular scenes that bring to mind many Nazi riots. The special-effects, with the color and black/white actually mixed in many scenes, alone are amazing. I don't want to spoil the story too much for you, because it's quite an interest-capturing ride. At least it would be the first times. I think this movie is such an original concept because it was almost completely masterminded by one person: Gary Ross. I personally thought the end was kind of lame, but still, very neat movie. Truly captures your emotions and makes you think. Which also applied to how wary I was towards the beginning, when it seemed almost like they were making the point that sex was what changed the characters from cardboard cut- outs to "real" people. I discovered that was not the case, and I'm glad. There is sex, a little violence, and some mild language in this movie. Rating: ***
"POLISH WEDDING" (PG-13; 1998) Stars: Claire Danes, Gabriel Byrne, Lena Olin
Even if I was only allowed to guess, I'd say this was an independant film. You can just tell. It has that "I'm artsy-fartsy, so I don't have to let you in on what my plot actually is, you just get to guess!" feel. Whatever. If you like Claire Danes or Gabriel Byrne, they were decent in it. Rating: *1/2
"POSSESSION: a romance" (PG-13; 2002) Stars: Gwyneth Paltrow, Aaron Eckhart,
Jeremy Northam, Jennifer Ehle
Dull. I don't know how they ever thought they could capture the pure literary celebration of the book by A.S.Byatt. The actors were all very charismatic in their roles but I don't see how a viewer who hadn't read the book would find any reason to grow fond of them in the movie. Ehle and Northam, who have both had experience in Austen novels-made-for-big-screen, were flawless for their roles, and Eckhart was an appropriate shy and geeky mix. Paltrow, who rarely impresses me, was not inappropriately cast. (Her hair's the real star here.) However, there were many senseless changes and characters who had no purpose; other characters removed who were needed. I'm quite sure this movie would fall flat whether the viewer had read the novel or not. There's sexual implications, discussed homosexuality, adultery. Rating: **
"A PORTRAIT OF A LADY" (PG-13) Stars: Nicole Kidman
I think all of Henry James' books must be very dark and mysterious, and all of the movies based on his books are very confusing with completely unresolved, meaningless endings. I haven't liked any of the ones I've seen. I felt as though I had missed the accompanying explanitory program the entire time I was watching this odd movie. I don't recommend it. Rating: *
"PRACTICAL MAGIC" (PG-13) Stars: Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, Goran Visnjic, Aidan Quinn, Stockard Channing
This is another one of those movies that you don't get the real idea of what the movie's like from the ads. It's about two girls who are "born witches" (red flags going up? i know, i know...), with a "curse" (rapids ahead) towards the men they get involved with that basically says "love 'em and they die" (mayday, mayday). This IS a very dark movie (dark magic included), and even the sexy starring ladies (Nic and Sandra) can't save that. There is some witty lines and some cute satire, but unless you have a thing for witch stories (then again, if you're some kind of purist, you would probably take offense to their handling...), you aren't gonna want to check this movie out. Even big fans of Nicole and Sandra aren't gonna be all that interested in this one. Still, it must have had a talented director, because it's put together well. There's sexual content, drinking, murder, and duh, magic. Rating: ***
"THE PREACHER'S WIFE" (PG) Stars: Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston
This is a remake of "The Bishop's Wife", which I liked, and it's very cute. If you like Whitney's singing, you get a chance to hear her sing, as well, and hey, Denzel is a cutie. I didn't really enjoy the implication of a relationship between the "angel of God" and the "preacher's wife", but it all ends happily, so...oh well. Yes, it is sort of a Christmas movie, and it's also great for the family. Rating: ****
"PRELUDE TO A KISS" (PG?) Stars: Meg Ryan, Alec Baldwin?
Obviously, this movie didn't make a real big impression on me (normally I'd remember more of the pertinent facts and at the moment I'm too lazy to go look them up, so sorry). I was sure I'd heard about it in some sort of "definitive to their career" sort of way, but I have no idea where or why. It was just an odd movie. Good performances, I suppose, though not above average really. I liked the music! Anyways, if you're a big Meg Ryan or Alec Baldwin (um, if that IS him that's in it..lol) fan, see it, absolutely. Otherwise, you can most likely find something more ..memorable? Rating: **
"THE PRINCE OF EGYPT" (PG) Stars: the voices of Sandra Bullock, Val Kilmer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny Glover, Martin Short, Steve Martin
Another animated! But by no means just a kiddie flick. This movie follows the story of Moses quite well actually! There's some mild Biblical violence. Rating: ****
"THE PRINCESS BRIDE" (PG) Stars: Cary Elwes, Robin Wright
Everybody's heard of this movie, right? Oh well! This is a like fantasy type story. This guy (who isn't a prince, by the way, but he's pretty cute!) battles monsters and survives pirates and other nasties to save his princess (or almost princess)! It's got some funny parts but the torture scene is just brutal..LOL Rating: ***
"THE PRINCESS DIARIES" (G; 2001) Stars: Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, Hector Elizondo
I happen to think just about every Garry Marshall film is a recipe for success and entertainment. This movie is no different, although, yes, it does have the obvious Disney flair. Anne Hathaway is an excellent actress. Even co-star Mandy Moore (yes, the singer, and there is one brief singing scene) manages to play her part (the typical Evil Cheerleader type) without taking over. This movie is a little juvenile, but quite cute. They even manage to stick a couple more responsible-sounding points in there (I'm not talking about the usual Disney agenda, which didn't really force itself onto the scene). Good for family viewing. The only content is the boy-girl dating/first kiss situations (at least they keep that juvenile, where it counts). Hard to get away from that. Rating: ***
"PRINCESS OF THIEVES" (2001) Stars: Keira Knightley
Keira Knightley went on to become a serious star after this movie, and shows that potential in her role as Gwyn, daughter of Robin Hood. There are some witty lines, and the "twist" at the end is fairly well done, but this is no family-favorite waiting to happen. It was not able to capture any of the charm of the Robin Hood story. Instead, what we have here is your typical made-for-Disney flick. Rating: **
"PURE LUCK" (PG) Stars: Martin Short, Danny Glover
This is one of those stupid to be funny movies. But hey, it IS funny. It's about totally accident-prone people. lol So if you like those kinds of movies, this is definitely one for you to check out. Some language. Rating: ***
Back to A-I or on to R-Z
And here's the rating system I'm using:
***** Worth seeing in the theatre. Not that I'll mind if you don't see it in the theatre. I don't see half of the ones that are worth the money in the theatre myself. I'm so frugal..
**** If you're a movielover or even a movie liker, you'll wanna check out this movie. Plan to get it the day it hits video.
*** Average. (You'll see a lot with this rating.) You might like it, you might not, depends on your taste. If you're bored, need some movies, you shouldn't be too disappointed by one with this rating.
** If you're so sure I don't know what I'm talking about, at least wait 'til it's on a movie channel to see one with this rating.
* If you like crappy movies, don't miss it. (There are more on the page with this rating now that I've started rating them on these guidelines, with the monetary worth in mind..lol)
If you're looking for R rated movies, I did finally start a small page for some R movies I've seen here.
I never put up reviews of movies I've only seen the edited version of, just to be sure I don't recommend something that has really bad stuff I don't know about in it. That does rule out ALL the movies I've seen on TV, so it's a bummer, but I like to be careful. Also, in case you haven't already figured it out, I don't rate animated movies!
