The privacy of individuals is an ongoing concern; especially when there are reports of internet companies, in the throes of liquidation, are selling personal information to other companies. This not only raises issues of trust when giving information over the internet, but also issues in relating to legal interpretation of what is deemed 'personal' versus public information.

With regards to the above, the House of Elrond understands that privacy is a large concern for many. The House of Elrond would also like to assure their customers that they do not rent, sell or lease personal information to third parties; nor does The House of Elrond rent, sell or lease customer lists.

However, the House of Elrond, reserves the right to disclose aggregated information* regarding its customers and usage of the on-line service to others for various purposes. An example could be: the number of Australian visitors (to the site) between 10 am - 12 pm on Thursdays during June, 2000. This type of information is useful when one has an advert or piece of information that is specifically targeted at Australian visitors, but is perceived as uninteresting/inappropriate for someone from another country. Of course, if a person were to be planning to take up residence in Australia, he/she may be interested in the information, but will, more than likely, miss seeing the information due to the targeted audience.

To reiterate, the customer's name and personal details are given to the House of Elrond in confidence that there will be no breach of trust and strict measures are taken to ensure that personal information does not 'leak' outside the company. It is therefore, understood that the supplied information is only to be used for customer related activities between the customer and the House of Elrond. However, if there has been legal infringement by the customer and the relevant authorities (Police, CIB etc) request the information to help them in their investigations, this information will be supplied (but not for a fee).

Aggregated information* is everybody put together in a group so no individual can be isolated. for example: a group of 10 people who live in the Australia. 2 are female and 8 are male. NO names, addreses, phone numbers, email addresses nor any other personal details are given out - to anyone; unless a law has been breached; but that is a different matter altogether. *******************************************************************************
