![]() When this had been going on for a while (probably 45 minutes or so), I told him I'd drive to the hospital. Since we lived on base, it was very close and I felt it unnecessary to send the kids to my friends unless I'd be staying at the hospital. I convinced Drew to stay home with them and proceeded on my own. It was freezing rain and the hospital entrance had changed so there I was walking around in the rain looking for it! Finally after I got there and got checked in, the nurse informed me I was dilated 3 centimeters! For me, this was big news and they decided to keep me since my contractions were so close. I phoned Drew and he dropped the kids at the neighbors and rushed to be with me. ![]() Everything was going well as we sat listening to the baby's heart beat. Suddenly though, it became silent. This wasn't a big shock to me since, as many of you know, as the baby moves down further, the location of the heart moves. I started moving the monitor around on my belly, trying to locate the heart and couldn't. We then called the nurse. I still wasn't concerned. I just assumed I wasn't looking in the right place. Well, when she couldn't find it either and ordered me on my left side, I started to be concerned. When the nurse checked, we realized that the cord was prolapsed and the baby was compressing it. Further, we realized the baby was cross legged and coming out that way! ![]() Needless to say, it got crazy fast. Little Macy decided she was ready but none of the rest of us were since I had to have an emergency c-section. Apparently, the anesthesiologist who was on call had broken her leg earlier that day so they had to reach the back-up, who was home, thank God. Because of the freezing rain, everyone was slowed down getting to the hospital. The time seemed to go on forever. At this point, I was sobbing and Drew was pale and scared. ![]() After everyone had arrived they wheeled me out of the room I was in to take me to the operating room. Because it was general anesthesia, Drew wasn't allowed to be with me. It was a nightmare. After all the worry, Macy was born a healthy baby at just over 7 pounds. ![]() As if that wasn't all scary enough, the whole week after Macy's birth one thing after another went wrong. One night after visiting me at the hospital with the kids, Drew accidentally locked them in the car while it was running and the police had to be called to help him out. The day after we got home from the hospital, all of us (excluding Macy) ended up with the flu and it was chaotic. We look back on that week now and smile at the frustration and fear we went through. I swore after she was born I'd not do it again. But, here we are again!
